Micklefield (or elsewhere) Sunday morning(s)

Postby Andy42g » Wed May 13, 2015 9:36 am

Well folks now the fine Yorkshire summer weather is once again upon us and I have my skate mojo back .... how about some outdoorsy-ness? Micky is the obvious one, but if any Leeds or it's environs types have any better ideas then lets do it.
There's a big new park on the prom at Scarborough? Long way for a Sunday morning sesh but might be fun?
(I really wish Leeds would get some kind of decent outdoors park built.... :? )

I would love them to replace the crappy park in Headingley with a decent concrete park. I know wehave hyde park but the headingley place is almost unskatable!

On a brighter note I'm definately up for sessions! I am a nurse so am not available every Sunday but I will keep an eye open for meet ups.

Location suggestions, Micky is a good one and agree with Brian that Castleford needs shredding. Thornes park in Wakefield is fun too. Gonna try out Harrogate and Garforth at some point too.

Looks like being dry Sunday morning so I'm gonna be skating. Any preferences Brian? I thought maybe Micklefield or works if it rains.

Well, it's the crack of dawn and I'm awake so I'm thinking of heading to Miccy early, early doors, like about 8ish. Could always move on to Cas later in the morning if that's anyone else's preference. Post up what you're thinking and I'll check in later

Anyone out n about this coming Sunday morning anywhere?

Had a go on the Barnsley Hoyle mill park the other week, it's in Dearne Valley park S71 1HU (around 203 Pontefract road for sat navs for car park entrance) opened about May last year, Ok for a change, nice surface, but can be prone to be a bit dusty if it's been dry for a while

I've been totally absent for months on this. My crocked knee turned out to be MCL (medial collateral ligament) damage. I was signed off as fit about 4-5 weeks ago but was told to lay off for at least another 6 just to be sure. A tiny tweak could set me back months.
I'm still talking to Chimp Wrestler too, I think he's been finding it hard to get out often but I'm sure we can get him back in the swing of things too.

I'm aiming to be back on a board by the weekend of the 20th, so now I can stake again I'll be much more active on the board again. Reading about skating and not being able to do it was too depressing otherwise.

Excellent news re the knee. Was there Sunday with Jamie and also went last night after work which was really good. Had the place to myself for a good while and then some skating lads turned up who were Ok, and then a older chap from York - Damien. He's a bit good at carving round those bowls there and was handy to try to follow! Lovely evening for it too.
Can drop in again (woohoo!) and also rolling into the shallow bowls is no prob there, and the little bowl is brilliant for getting to grips with the coping. Party at ours Saturday night so I doubt I'll be there early Sunday - might try for Saturday early instead. I will get carving round properly...

After a little tentative skate around my back yard yesterday and a 4.5 mile run today I think my knee is doing o.k.

I was actually surprised how quickly I picked everything up that I had learnt before my knee packed in. Ollie's, Frontside 180 and Shove-it's all down (kind of)...... and with that in mind is anyone doing Micklefield tomorrow morning?

Did you guys go anywhere in the end? Drove to Cas and it was too wet so went to Micklefield and it was as dry as a bone despite the rain.

That happened last week too. I went to Micklefield and it even rained for 5 minutes, then 10 minutes later it was dry again, that place dries up fast!

Went to Cas with HarryR, bowl was 99 % dry on arrival at 8 am, so started to sweep out then rained twice, was drying out but by now was 9:25 so decided to play safe & went to the Work's for two hours +

How do? Long time, no posts from me! I know it's been months since my last post, but the recording studio I was building got finished, so I've been preoccupied with something I'm actually able to do quite well, we also had some family tragedy to get through with the death of my mum, so skating has been hit and miss, though I've still managed some sessions here and there.

Nothing planned for Sunday so far but would like a skate and probably will have a skate somewhere, but time and place may only be decided upon when I get up on the day. I do like the bowl at Castleford at the moment and have also been getting more confident in the new part at The Works. Following your video above Brian I dragged the family to Rawmarsh on Sunday afternoon and managed a bit of a skate with a few suicidal kids on scooters and BMXs, I did like that bowl, but the rest of the family weren't sold on it! I'm open to suggestions really and now I'm back checking on here more regularly, I might manage to get to the same place you guys get to.

On another note, because schools round here finish next week officially, me and my wife are planning a trip over to Rock City on Monday when we've dropped the kids off at school. I've checked and apparently schools in Hull don't close until Tuesday, so I'm hoping that it'll be a bit quiet and allow for some quality time in the bowl. It's not somewhere I can go to easily as our youngest is too young to get in there. I'm going to book a day off to make the trip, if anyone else is about or free it'd be good to meet up. I suppose as I'm making the trip east on Monday, I'd rather stay more local to Wakefield/ Leeds on Sunday. Is a Sunday session at Thornes out of the question? Would it be worth it or too much hard work to clean it out? My favourite of the outdoor parks is Cas at the moment, though my wife doesn't really like it there, so I could be pussy whipped into Micklefield, unless there's a decent group heading elsewhere and I might be able to change her mind. If the weather's awful on Sunday I'll probably default to The Works.

There, I'm back to rambling. Where were you thinking of Bri?

It wasn't actually that bad, most of the kids were pretty young (about 10 - 12) and quite polite. Only about 3 kids on scooters and a couple on bikes. They were clueless about any kind of etiquette, but not as bad as I'd feared an afternoon session on alien soil would be.

Any thoughts about Sunday? Cas or Miccy for me if it's nice out.

Hi Neil sorry to hear about your Mum, it can't have been easy for you.

I could pressed ganged in to a session on Sunday morning and Cas would be an option. I've now had two abortive attempts to skate there and been rained off.

I'm also free Saturday morning for a change if anyone is available?

Thanks Harry.

Saturday, I'm not sure about, but I'm technically free though might have had a late night on Friday if I have a practice with the band. I suppose my dream weekend would be Micklefield Saturday and Cas on Sunday. From the one Sunday session I have managed at Cas, the local scooter kids began appearing about 10, so an early start may yield the best results, though it's likely to need a clean as kids can't get in pubs nowadays so they hang out at skateparks and throw stuff in! They may surprise us, but it can get messed up quite quickly there from people who just hang out.

I'll have to be a maybe for Saturday and I'll get to wherever the consensus drives us for Sunday.

No worries, let's play it by ear. See what the weather brings first ;-)

Saturday morning out for me as doing a park run unless you fancy risking a PM/evening one, but Sunday could well be a goer, wherever it may be

At some point will have to go to Rawmarsh again, nice bowls (need brushes for that one though) ?

Anyone tried Hoyle mill Barnsley, I've been twice?

I've had a few looks online at Hoyle Mill, but not had the chance to get there. Could be an option though. I'm open to the option of Rawmarsh again without the scooter kids, as I didn't manage to get enough time in there to find a decent line to get over the rollover. Maybe there for a bit and a stop off at Hoyle Mill on the way back up on Sunday? That's if my propaganda campaign for castleford doesn't work! Harry hasn't had the pleasure of Cas yet and I do like the shape of the bowl for getting round nicely, which makes me feel a bit better about my skating.

From the weather forecast I saw tonight, Sunday looks good and Saturday apparently will be showery. Not sure I could do later on Saturday as my wife has some stuff on in the evening, but I'll keep looking back here to see what we're up to.
