just realised this isn in the other post but doesnt say here... but basically russ from ape skates has stepped up to chair the project as edgie quit, guy is still onboard, and i have joined as project coordinator.

have had 3 meetings so far this month, and had another meeting tonight.

things are looking pretty positive. we have vowed to never ever give any indication of progress till its set in stone to avoid getting peoples hopes up. but we're moving at a happy pace which is great, and we have some good support now and things are looking better than ever.

the two basic things we're working on are, in order of importance.

1) funding, which we are getting great support with.

2) scaling back the design. there are political issues, and more with this, we have some hoops to jump through to get things that werent done right before, right this time around.

As you may know we've been running a survey in Ape Skates for the past 6 weeks.

The survey isnt quite closed yet but time is running short.

Here is a PDF of the collated results (including some bar charts) for the first 95 Votes we've taken.

Russ Rob and the guys are really motoring on this project now..

xx Our Project Goes To Tender!
September 02, 2009, 02:13:55 PM by Overseer
As you may well be aware Russ and myself (Rob) recently met with the top four british skatepark companies to discuss the results of our user survey.

TDBC have now put out a tender invitation for all interested parties. They must respond to this with information and concept designs by Sept 28th.

After a vetting process there will be a further round of user involvement to select the final design and adjust it before it goes to build in the new year.

note: We are still working on a final funding application for a further 50k. Concept designs will reflect both possible outcomes.

The invitation to tender can be seen here http://www.leisureopportunities.co.uk/L ... N=68833210 or here http://www.tauntondeane.gov.uk/tdbcsite ... hichpage=1

no doubt! as soon as the design is finalised and 3d renders are done i'll make a new post in the skateparks bit.

if you've missed it.. its being done by Wheelscape. the bowl is kinda like the one they did in Filton but with better hips and two large pockets instead of one. it spines over into the run from one side of the 4ft bit and the snakey ditch wraps down behind the two large pockets out into the parky bit.

its replacing the metal park at hamilton park which is just on the way in to taunton.

its dead easy from the motorway. you just take a left at the creech castle junction.. follow the road round for about 1/4 mile and its in the big park on the left opposite bloomfield close. the park entrance is bloody well hidden though.

they start clearing the site tomorrow! :D eta May

Yup yup! I think there is going to be a good early morning and lunchtime crew for quite a while til the place is a bit quieter.

Indoor parks.. Long gone mate. It used to be roughly opposite where the park is going. There was another in Wellington too and thats gone as well. Several people I know want to start one, but they need capital. There is currently nothing for an hours drive in any given direction.

Same up here in Bristol, only thing we got is Newport and that is shite at the moment, although it has got a new owner so hopefully it will at least be tidied up a bit. Apart from that I have no idea where our nearest indoor park is, either Birmingham or somewhere in Wales. Of course there is Motion in Bristol, but that is now only open 2 nights a week and bmx only. I do miss skate and ride. On a plus side there seems to be loads of new outdoor stuff being built.

a good indoor park in the bristol region would clean up. even though i live down here if i had enough cash i'd consider doing a regional level park up there.. its so needed.

its not a big secret and never has been. the user group are happy with it :)

we have some really pretty 3d renders from the tender. problem is they're way out of date as we raised another 50k since then and that changed the design. its unfair to post up those designs because it misleads people.

there are up to date 3Ds viewable in the local SOS, however they're not rendered to be super pretty yet. Until wheelscape have done final 3ds and they're happy for us to be putting them up we wont be doing so. due to our funding having spending time limits their priority has been getting on site asap which they've now done.

hold tight. it will be up online real soon. best bet is to join the facebook group.
