A Word of Warning

PostPosted: Mon Nov 09, 2009 12:30 pm

In March 2009 one of my band decided to press up a 7 inch green vinyl single, I approached “MEDIA SOURCING LIMITED” run my Mr Smales, Andrew J, and decided to pay by credit card for the quickest and fast way to get things pressed.
I was told that the credit card machine wasn’t working, and could I have send a check made payable to Online Music Ventures Ltd, Which I did and that’s where my money disappeared. Media Scouring went bust the next day, hence moving my money somewhere else, which is defrauding the receivers that were in control of his company at the time.

After several emails contacting people in the industry I got hold of his new personal number which I called, he was very surprised to hear from me and said that he was resolve this situation and was very sorry I had been wrapped up in this situation.
He never did anything he said on the phone (or email) and I’m still owed over £600. So we had to pay another pressing company to get the vinyl pressed.
So to stop anyway else loosing there hard earned cash DONT use any company run by Andrew Smeals. To this date 9th Nov he hasn’t set up any new business, but “Online Music Ventures Ltd” also called “Online Music” are taking orders http://www.musicventures.com, so don’t waste your money with this company and please tell anyone that is looking for pressing to go else where.
As you know, it is difficult enough as it is in the music industry to make money which it isn’t helped when people steal your money as well.
AVOID this company and person!.

Send the Boys round to sort him out. You can ask and hope all you like.....I doubt you will see your money again.

How I wish someone would do a REAL Watchdog where they go round and kick the wankers in the balls for being lying cheating cunts. It might actually make them think before they embark on their next scam.

trading standards have agreed to take on the case ....

and also the insolvency agency have wrote to me as well ... they are looking into this

what is surprising HOW many magazine / zines wouldnt print what i wrote or even would comment on it ... or print ANYTHING

the "we could get in trouble over this" .... NO you mean .. you got no fucking balls!!!

thankfully a lot of the punk bands and managers that saw my posts have responded, seems several people will not use the guy in the future

as the ASDA slogan says "every little help"

ok, they will not even respond to trading standards... so they said time to get a "small claims pack" from the local court.

so order that......

and just to amuse myself ... i have set up a spoof email to see if they are in business or not .... and with a few hours they responded saying turn around time is 12 days for a 1000 CD's

but oddly enough they dont respond to me mmmmmmmm wankers

Your local County Court might be able to help you, but as I understand it, just fill out the forms, make sure you also add evidence of the claim (e-mails, receipts, invoices etc) and send it in with your cheque. Eventually you get a date and after an appearance hopefully a judgement against them.

BUT

The judgement will only be against the company that sitched you up, if that company has gone bust or has been shut down, you might be pissing in the wind, as they can only enforce the judgement against the company. If its an individual you might have more luck getting your money back.

Hopefully you do get your money back......when you have, then send the boys round...

cheers

the small claims pack is in the post heading to me..... as i type

the nice lady at trading standards has been really helpful as was the lady at the court

the company is still in trading or was on last week when i sent them an email under a new name ...

i dont like having to do this type of thing, i then again i dont believe in ripping people off!

they still have 5 days left of the 10 days i said they could pay me in before i start this whole pile of shite .... so you never know the nice man at "Online Music Ventures" might just have forgot to mail me the money back

slap! ... no he's a cunt and a thieving one as well!

Its highly unlikely he will show, he is not obliged. Equally, if the company is insolvent, you will join a list of creditors and once the assets are flogged, they get divvied up, dont expect too much though I hope for the best.

To be honest, meeting him face to face in a non violent but persistent way will get more results. The implied threat is far greater than just ducking a corporate CCJ. Not really forum banter but, if he see's you making the effort and succeeding in finding him, he will make a deal with you, especially if he knows the music industry as you know it is watching.

How about a visit from a baliff? They usually get results but you might need the court judgement first. Also you could issue a winding up order and close the company down, I'm sure that would get their attention. You might need a decent lawyer to advise you on this.

hey man, this kind of bull makes me sick. I know exactly the nightmare it is to get shit printed up and dealing with cowboy printers is the worst. I am quite sure if they have gone bust but are still trading under the same name, that is breaking some law... Sure of it. They are obtaining cash under false pretences. They obviously have no way to fulfill the orders. You kept all the blag order enquiries? Forwarded them to Trading Standards? good luck on the cash though mate. There are enough pay to play venues, dodgy rehearsal rooms, mgmt companies and promo companies out there without these cu*ts. Does my head in man. It's the worst word in the scene, 'business' when it's played like that. :-(

Congrats on winning the case, good luck on getting the cash back mate,
B

the good thing is i have posted the "word of warning" all over the net and i know a few record companies that have stopped using him

so in some respects i kicking the twat in is ball from a distance as well as via the courts

what i do find odd is how many "music papers" will not print the story as it could cause them issues????

i won the case you fucktards!!!

maybe if they stop printing stuff about the bands hair style and what is happening in the industry people might get to know about cunts like mr Andrew Smales from online music ventures .....

the nice thing about MAS is we have "bot" that mean what is said on here appears on searches so the more times i say that "online music ventures" are "thieving wankers" ..... the more people will find it on the net :)

RESULT!!!! I am all for that kind of Bot! mintness!!! Should do the same for pay to play venues and MGMT companies who want fees monthly and do nowt! Maybe that's another forum tho eh? I have been very lucky in the cd printing/art work malarky, not had any bad moments. It's the worst kind of trick to have off muso's, everyone knows we are usually skint when it comes to getting something out there. It's ars*s like that that help keep the good stuff down. It makes it 5 times harder to do anything.

...and yeah, obsessions with image in the music press FFS!!!! Don't get me started on that one!
