The £350-400K Crystal Palace in south London skatepark is proceeding well, and there should be some news about the appointed skatepark designers just before Xmas. The aim is for planning permission to be gained in Feb-March 2016, with construction to follow shortly afterwards in time for completion in the the summer. This is shaping up to be a truly first class skatepark, with an innovative design and landscape setting, set in an attractive and historic skateboarding location.

As part of the preparations for this, Bromley council have opened a short survey, which in their words is "about the future sustainability of the skate park once it’s built to make sure it remains a quality facility that is maintained and supported for the comment. The questions include ideas around events, sponsorship and community involvement. It is really just to get idea of your experience with skate parks and what elements work best."

If you live and/or visit skateparks in south London, please take a few minutes to complete this survey.

Freestyle have now been definitely appointed as skatepark designers and builders for Crystal Palace. Freestyle and Canvas (runners-up) both know this, and it has been leaking out, so I guess it is now public knowledge.
Chris Taylor (head of Freestyle) says they are aiming for a June-July 2016 start date for construction.
Budget is around £370K, and the initial design includes a cloverleaf pool and various interlinked bowls/flow/transitions. Chris also says that there is a gas main running across the exact part of the site first selected for the skatepark, so a redesign will be needed to reposition the skatepark to avoid that pipe. They will also take this opportunity to incorporate more street-oriented ledges, curbs etc. Looking good . . .
