Replacement park for Newport (South Wales)

Due to some football bollox Newport's skatepark is being demolished. Which is good news as the surface is horrible anyway and they are replacing it with this. Should be done by the end of June if the weather behaves. The pool is based on Hereford's but on a larger scale.

Interesting - same area of Newport as the old one?

Re: Replacement park for Newport (South Wales)

That looks pretty good. Some different features - I can see some proper carnage with the tunnel out of the bowl :D

It does amaze me that Newport can fund not one but two modern parks, and demolish one, yet Swindon is still stuck with metal ramps. Hopefully that'll change soon tho. Any idea where the Newport funding is coming from? Gotta be looking at well over half a million for the two parks plus demolition I'd think.

Tredegar park which is much easier to reach than the current site as it's just off the M4

Original park was about 100k I think. Funding for it's demolition and the new park has come from the Football Association of Wales and Newport Council. The site has a huge velodrome that probably doesn't get used much (I think the UK Olympic team train there) but I think the whole idea is to promote Welsh sport in general.

The old park is pretty naff really and can be a pain to get to so this is all good.

South Wales does it again. Looks great. If only we could get an indoor park within 45 mins of Bristol.

Work has started and is apparantly costing £175k.

It's gonna be flood lit until 10 every night! That means I may actually be able to get a skate in after school hours!

South Wales road trip definitely on the cards for me when this is done. Maybe Hereford too, if I can squeeze it in. 8)

New park planned for Aberdare too as the old one is being demolished for a 'super school'. Will be bigger and better than the old one. And finished before the old one is demolished!

That's quite a lot of park for their money - unless the model is " actual size " a la Spinal Tap :D
It's pretty much the budget we're aiming for here in Sherborne. I'd be blown away to have that three minutes up the road from me.

Re: Replacement park for Newport (South Wales)

Got there just before 9 and there was already 2 guys on site so couldn't sneak onto the site for some proper pics. Anyway it's gonna be a big skate park. Location is perfect for access, has toilets and changing rooms. Only downside is it's next to a kids play park, crazy golf, etc so will end up full of scooter rats but at least that mean hot moms to watch in the sun while you queue for an ice cream.

Me neither. Will be nice to have somewhere a few Masers can meet up every week or two as I normally skate on my own. Hence I never learn anything new.

Will try and get pics on Wednesday morning before/after the MSN jam. I'd offer you a lift Gumpy but not really sure when I'll surface (party the night before) or when I leave.

Was saddeend to hear about Newport's demise as it's th eonly concrete park around here I know of. Plenty of Metal and tarmac places.
New place looks mega!! But I think it will be swamped with scooters.

Will have to do the early morning Sunday Service routine again and get the rust off those bearings :D

ROSPA have done them bit and a few safety features have been added.

Dainton was there filming yesterday day so it must be finished.

Think all the fences, etc are still up and there's still 24 hour security as the caravan Its still there according to my Mum who drove past yesterday.

Officially no. Unofficially no. Well that's what they are saying but then with a finished park to play with I'd say that too :)

I'm there next Friday for sure. IT WILL BE A SNAKE FEST as that's how it is around here and there will be a big turn out so if you want to skate bring a bat :D Or get Jake and Sam in a CRV/WKD sensai loop.

It'll be rammed! Just hoping they open the field up for parking as there's only 30 odd parking places in the normal car park.

I'm gonna head down early and see if I can get a roll before it gets too busy. Will be a huge snake session once the Kill City boys turn up. Fun but generally too quick for me!

Tredegar House Sports Ground rather than the actual house. It's the park opposite the National Statistics place.
