Bath Victoria Park Refurbishment

Postby Noidear » Thu Jun 05, 2014 10:15 pm

The council if offering the opportunity for skaters to give their input to the re-design of the Bath Victoria Park skate park. It's a good opportunity for everyone with an interest in the park to put forward their ideas and wishes, and perhaps to reinforce the wishes for the vert ramp to be retained. Here's the link:

Went to the consultation yesterday. Only two bids were received apparently. One basically a street plaza with a mini-spine, the other much more varied, including an 11 foot deep bowl, 6 feet half-pipe, a rather odd looking snake run and some street shit. You can guess which way I voted.

Council guy seemed reasonably knowledgable and an ex-skater to boot. Work supposed to start Nov/Dec and be finished by next Easter.

I was disappointed to be away on holiday when the consultation was held. When will we find out what we are going to get, and how many people attended he meeting?

It wasn't a meeting as such. The plans were on display for a few hours and you could vote for your preference and make any additional comments. Voting seemed to be about 50/50 but there were two other consultations too.

There is also a meeting about the lark hall skatepark on Sunday 31st at 2.00pm to discuss what people want. There is a Facebook group for this - do a search for larkhall skatepark and you should find it. We are lucky to be getting 2 potentially good spots in Bath and the council seem pretty open to ideas. Let's hope they do the right thing

Excellent news. Any ideas on where we can see the full plans? The Canvas website just has a 'watch this space' against Bath Victoria Park.

I've found this photo on Twitter (I don't think the final design includes a giant hand though):

For scale large bowl is 11 feet.

That will do nicely I think. It looks like they have tried to incorporate some elements which will satisfy the vert skaters. Can't wait for the spring now.

Just in case you aren't aware, the Canvas designer used to work for Freestyle and is responsible for The Level, XC, Projects Manchester and many others. The Canvas build team (formerly Midas Construction) also used to sub contract for Freestyle and built all of the above, plus more recently Winchester and Haverfordwest for Maverick.

ie - you are in safe hands IMO :)

Yep - pretty excited about this myself, do some trips to the area to visit partner's replies, and Bridgewater was a bit of a let down with that waterfall.

Yep, looks like they are doing a great service to the current users, replicating the ramps they do have in bowl form, including a decent deep end, if that is 11 as I heard first mentioned, then that'll do a good job keeping the vert dogs happy.

Looks even better than the first design, the stuff outside the main bowl looks fun! 8)

We got two bath park threads going on here. I think we should stick to one if we ever stand a chance of arranging a jam or meet up. :D Shall we declare this thread closed and keep all arrangements to the other one? (since it's longer and has more participants already)
