What Boards did you skate ?

Postby booner » Thu Feb 26, 2009 9:51 pm

Just wondering what boards you all have Skated from the first time you pick one up to present day so i'll start with mine
first board when i was 6 and it was a 70's slim fiberglass board
then there was a few baron years of cheap toys r us ones till i was 13 when i got a g&s street chomp with grind king trucks and 2 set of wheels g bones and bullets . I also had a vision board which was a h street one but not sure of the name . Soon after that i got a double kick board with a slick underside which was of gorillas eating bananas . at 16 i bought a new deal deck with very low trucks unsure of the name and some blank wheels that was probley 25/30mm at the tops rode that till i snapped it when i was 19 then after that i just had skate shop own brand boards which was a bad time but now i'm gettin back into skatin i need a new set up may go down the ols skool path again. Please i would like to read which boards you all rode over the years

Initially went thru loads of plastic ones with seagulls on them.

Started making my own decks out of ply which were way better.

Bought a Parelta Warptail and Fibre flex bowl rider just as the big decks came out, so hardly ever really rode them.

Lance Mountain Future Primitive

Natas puma

H-Street Colby Carter

Got into posicles then, Swindell, Real, Powel, lots of cheapo blanks.

Two Alien Workshop decks that I really liked

Currently riding an Element Thriftwood which I like

Got into some pool decks, a BDS Buddy Carr (Thanks Matt!) and more recently a Real Provera.

Have an Earthwing for sliding, and two Lush longboards for a laugh.

Have probably forgotten quite a few, and am currently forcing myself not to buy any new stuff as I don't really need it.

spent a lot of money on a lot of different boards...initially trying to find one that felt right, then when i learnt to drop-in and skate bowls and ramps more than street stuff i went for larger boards. I've finally found my preferred size, but still can't beat the excitement of buying a new set-up.

age 11-12 when i first started skating i had a cheap rubbish toy-shop deck that at least had some concave, then a Jeff Kendall Grafitti deck.

i bought an Edwards popsicle deck when i was around 21-22 with a half-assed idea about skating again - lasted about a week!

bought a sector 9 longboard in the states in 2002 and used it for shop runs

started late 2007 and have had a fair-few boards:

8" blueprint, thunder trucks & 55mm spitfires
8.25" heroin, venture trucks & 55mm spitfires
8" cliche with above trucks & wheels
santa cruz roskopp face reissue with indies & alva wheels
9.5" flip lance mountain, indies & 62mm krypts
another 8" cliche set up the same as before
9.5" Foundation Cars reissue, indies & 60mm cortechs
9.5" Black Label Grosso with above trucks & wheels
back to my 8.25" heroin with indies and 57mm spitfires

also have a alva 1977 reissue for cruising to work
and a santa cruz jason jessee reissue, kevin staab trackers & 63mm tracker ollies

*edit* Whoops wrong answer.

Er.

Polyprop (yellow) with unfeasibly wide solid orange wheels. They weren't urethane. Just grit-magnets that were wheel shaped.

Home made copy of an Alva. With frankenstein trucks and CD 70mm green kryps.

Z-Pig, Gullwing Pros and wheels that I don't remember. Poss Powerflex 9s.

Surrey Skates blank, something else, SIMS Wheel IIs

....
(then the getting back into it, credit card spaff)
....

Until finally:
I've got a Shitbird Hessian Hellrider II (Indys and PSFs) for approach work.
Actual coping work is my cutdown Skaterbuilt (Indys and NoSkoolz).
Changing between the two is a right fucker, mid-skate, though. Probably why I haven't bothered for a while.
For turning, I use another cutdown Skaterbuilt, Indy/3dmTTC and Seismics.

All of these are using Biltin bearings, except the last board that has NMB Arsebandits with the shields removed.

1. started with a plank of wood and one of my big sisters skates. Wouldn't turn. Too many nails in there.
2. Supa skuda. Blue polypropelene deck. Kicktail front and back. Red urethane c throo wheels. Very loose bearings.
3. Fibreflex deck: Brown on top yellow below. No holes so my dad drilled them. ACS 580 trucks black/silver (from surf shop in Bude, Cornwall). They sent a slalom ACS 651 first so it had to be sent back. Orange riser pads. OJ Superjuice orange urethane wheels. NTN sealed bearings.
4. Bought son a Darskstar Armorlight Weld skateboard (came from Fort Lauderdale, Florida). Can't skate so letting him do it for me. :?

in the 70's a plank of wood with some borrowed & bodged roller skate bits, then my mum got me a yellow plastic board.

80's a no name catalogue thing then moved to Powell Peralta stuff and ended up on a Brand-X deck on indies and slimeballs that lasted me ages.

Now, I'm looking (saving up in between bills) to get myself something but not decided on anything yet.

1st time round

* Powell Ripper with Gullwings and SC BigBalls which I got while on hols in Florida (up to that point I'd been riding a crappy turbo 2 and a couple of other el cheapo boards)
* World Industries Vallely mini
* Vision Jinx (which seemed massive after the Vallely mini) - that lasted about a month before I snapped it doing a melanchollie. I was stoked as I thought it was hardcore !
* Powell Nicky Gurrero mini

a few years off the board and then . . .

* Powell Skull and Sword
* Santa Cruz Ceasar Singh
* Rhythm Chaney Jeaunginjinijnininigningijgnign (something like that - had to give it to a kid who's board I snapped who was v broke and wouldn't be able to get another for a couple of months)
* Toy Machine Ed Templeton

and this time round . . . .

* Element Team Deck (purchased in Florida while on Honeymoon, from same skateshop I got my first pro setup from)
* Powell Lance Mountain Kid (original)
* Firm Lance Mountain
* Krooked Steve Olsen

*

My first wide deck was a Cheapskate, anyone remeber those? The kick tail was a wedge added on and it was cheap but ok.

Then on to an Alva deck and wheels, gullwing trucks.

Plank of wood as per my avatar, and dismantled roller skate screwed/nailed on the bottom.
Epoxy with sand chucked on it in lieu of griptape.

A handful of polyprops...

Second hand from a Plymouth shop: Santa Cruz rocker deck with ACS (hmm) 480s? OJ pure juice wheels (that I still have)

BB Marc Sinclair with Extraks and Sims Comp IIs from Surrey Skates mail order.

Then it became the 80s and there were FAR too many. ;) Maybe I'll make a list one day for fun.

sublimer wrote:Funny how many people had a plank of wood then a Skuda. Hadn't realised they were so popular in the 70s.

They weren't popular, they were available.
I didn't have one BTW, no shops near me had them I seem to recall, or I probably would have.

Roller skate and a pice of ply which my Dad demonstrated by head butting the window ledge  probably '76..... then said roller skate was attatched to a basic board shape he carved. Then a plastic poly Sun board from Plymouth surf shop bought for £5!!! Dad begged mum to let him buy it for me (that never happened very often!).

Then whatever I could lay my hands on through the 80's as nothing seemed available. Bought a couple second hand boards which I still have. Managed to get several sets of new wheels in the late 80's when the surf shops tried getting back into skating for a short time.

A bright orange plastic job.
An Alley Cat - the Rolls Royce of playgrounds circa 1979
Image
Moving into the eighties...

A Town & Country Zoner - Damn ! Was that puppy pink
Image

After Future Primitive there was only one deck any sane boy wanted....( mine was green )
Image

..but being greedy, I spent my " wages " from helping out on the farm on this, so I had two set ups.
Image

Nearing my skate retirement, I had one of these, but focussed it with a breeze block after one shin smacking too many..but what do you expect from a coping waxer ?
Image

The last deck I had was this..again in green, god knows why. No idea where it went, last seen being used as a sack truck by my parents.
Image

Found MAS last May..uncle Woody sold me this. Still working but less frequently..I've found smaller is better for me.
Image

On a whim bought this..its retired unless someone disturbs its final resting place ( looks at Pete " Slammer " Isbell ).
Image

My current ride and favourite so far, thank you Alec F !
Image

My next ride, winging its way from Woody & Dre's Olde Emporium and Skatenasium Supplies.( image nicked from Drive By  )
Image
THank you, goodnight.

*EDIT * I said it was PINK !!!!

Early 80s - first deck was a narrow variflex thing with wide black wheels and no idea what trucks
Followed by a G&S Danny Webster 'shocked', Stage III Indys and Simms Street wheels
After this came a Simms Jeff Phillips, Stage IV Indys and Powell mini rats

Fast forward to 1999 when I picked up a 8.25" blank deck with some Variflex trucks and no name wheels

Today - still using the same blank deck but now with some Stage X Indys 139s (with yellow Khiro bushings) and F1 Lance Mountain parkburners

Got to buy a new deck though - I think 12 years for one deck is enough

Oooo great thread.....
76 to 81
Polyprop Calafornia Sun - open bearings! Baseplate broke after about half a day.
Mi dad bought me a Skuffers wooden thing which weighed a ton. Sure they were cast iron trucks and wheels made out of wine gums. Sturdy tho' :D
Warptail 2 -Acs 580s - Powerflex 5's
Various home made ply decks then with Full Tracks, Belair Bolts and Lip Bombs
Sims 12" Greg Ayres - Indys - Belair Lip cones - then lime green Cubics - Too big! Wish I hadn't got rid tho.
Sims Andrecht Concave - Indys and purple Cubics (still have it on mi wall 8) )

2007
Sims Nash - Indys - black Cubics
Ride 8.5 - Indys and Spfs
2 No. 8.5 Flip Burnquists
and from Woody just upgraded to a FLIP Burnquist P2. Still getting used to it as I haven't extended the wheelbase on this.
I must buy some more sense!

80's/90's (in no particular order)
off cut of plywood with a roller skate cut in half and screwed to the bottom.
Ripstik Bonehead complete.
Santa cruz Roskopp (cant remember which)
Brand X of some description.
Powell Peralta:
Tony Hawk medallions (x2) and the model before that(head and claw in forest graphic).
Hawk Double Kick
Hawk Street deck
Caballero (dragon with Caballero written right down length of the deck)
Barbee Rag Doll
Mountain Dough boy
H Street Hensley
Plan B Hensley
Alva Fred Smith
Deathbox Dossett x 2
Deathbox Rocker
Deathbox Moul
Bash deck (Ian deacons company pressed by deathbox)
(various trucks from gullwing, Indy, G&S, cutter and more...)
(Various wheels from powell, santa cruz, deathbox, cockroach and more...)
+ some more......

2000 ish
Krooked Gonz
8 Ball?
Mini logo 8"

Since 2008
Black Label Grosso (still use, 169's and Rainskates)
Death Dossett (sold)
Consolidated snakes (stored away)
Creature Stu Graham Viking 8.8 (still used, 169's with Rainskates)
Creature Stu Graham Hesh 8.8 (still in use, 169's and Spitfire F1 mountains)
Powell Hawk Medallion (set up as a retro ride with Fluro Gullwings and green G Bones)
Mini Logo 8.5 (setting up now with Theeve TIAX and Rainskates)
Lush Spooky longboard (my longboard funnily enough! set up with holeys and Gum Balls)

Wish I'd bought a double of every set up i had as a kid and stored them away, and wish I could remember all of them!! If you think there's a lot bear in mind this was over a period of at least 6 years, and I skated every available minute of the day be it street or ramps. I used to skate to and from school as well.....

What Boards did you skate ?

Postby HarryR » Fri Feb 18, 2011 9:09 am

The list as best I can remember -
Surf flyer
Newporter polyprop with open bearings, later upgraded to some Sims pure juice copies with precision bearings (wow!)
G&S Fibreflex bowlrider, Tracker Halftracks, Road Rider 6s
Hobie park rider, Tracker midtracks, Yandall Bowlrolls
Val Surf Kent Senatore PPP, Tracker fulltracks, 65mm green Kryps, later Belair Blazers
10" Alva tri-logo, Tracker Extracks Alva wheels (2 pink, 2 orange.
Sims 10" Superply, same running gear as above.
Home made deck, (experimental phase, laminated, with cut-outs)
Sims Brad Bowman Superman (mk1), Tracker Sixtracks, Bones Cubics 64mm green.
Sims Brad Bowman concave, Tracker Sixtracks, Sims "The Wheel" (still got this one. Last board before quitting in 1982)
Powell-Peralta Mike McGill reissue, Indy 169s, mini Cubics green, (First board after starting back again in Nov 2007).
Crimson 8.5, Indy 149s, 56mm Cortechs.
Alva 8.5 30th Anniversary deck, Indy 149s, 56mm SPFs.
Now running the Crimson again with the SPFs

Think there were other wheels mixed in back in the day. Remember having some Tunnel Rocks but only rode them for a couple of weeks 'cause they were shite.
Life is like learning a new skate trick; if you want to progress, you have to be willing to slam.

I first started in the 80's with a plastic slim board can't remember the name summat alley cat.
Then when I picked up a board again in the late 80's when widey's were about went through a few boards bought or swapped off of friends eventually got myself a per wellinder double kick with Indies and Acid rain wheels with powel rails and N.S.K bearings that was the dogs bollox I had a reserve board that I hardly skated which was a H street Danny Way with the signpost but it were crap as it delammed it had Gullwings on and Ojs. I only took up skating again at x-mas and had a good few boards since then starting with the blueprint babooshka with crap trucks n wheels on now I'm back on Indies with Death wheels with N.M.B bearings that I managed to get with a board off ebay. A blank board by Union I've got a signed Dan Cates I Love You? Death board but won't skate it even though I came close![photobucketslide]Image[/photobucketslide]

santa cruz street creap (around the time the 80s were dying) - my first (pro) board
Image

kept that deck probably 5 years until popsicles happened: alien workshop, blind, etc... and then I saw the light and started longboarding:

Chronic Crew Get High II (or III?), under the Lush (hey you can see my street creep all on top):
Image

things only went downhill from there ( 8) ..- ):

Lush Globe Slide (a popsicle for big fat dudes... awesome)
Pumpkin Skippy with BK hooks (very flexy for my 100 kg)
Santa Monica Airlines Stigmata (under the pumpkin)... I wanted a rocker shape but I find this one rather shallow (and I wanted a SMA cause it makes me feel like a child again)

and my next board will be a B² Grinta to replace my ageing chronic
Image
Check them out here - b2longboards.fr

After all , the french make much better longboards than the brits %$

1985: Orange Pencil Board from the 70s with Red see through wheels and open bearings
1986: wooden pencil board from the 70s. wood stain with black wheels and open bearings
1987: 10" wide board with nose guard and lapper. Think my mum paid £20 for it from a local co-op or something like that. no concave, cheap toy. but i rode it to death, re-painted it, got some better(ish) wheels and took all the 'gay plastic' off....

old deck.jpg

1989-90ish: H-Street Tony Magnusson.
I got lucky and bought one of Lijas old decks (local vert skater who was around in the 80s) off a mate who knew him for a fiver. I was so very stoked to own a 'real' skateboard.

Image

Then i saved for a brand new setup, took what seemed like a decade, but it was worth it and i got a powell nicky guerrero mask...

Image

skated it to death....

oldmask.jpg

after that i made a terrible decision and bought an Alva Eddie Reategui. Simply because i had heard that alva decks were tough, and i was pretty pissed that my mask had ended up so hammered after one summers worth of skating.
Image

weighed a ton and was not made for street skating (obviously). But being a naive 15 year old how was i to know?!

after that i skated blanks, probably out of revolt against the Alva purchase.

fast forward to 2008 and i bought a Stereo - Jason Lee.

Image

2009 bought a Girl - Rick Howard deck. it was tiny, what was i thinking? (probably 'ooh what a nice graphic' )

a couple of plastic pencil boards in the late 70's - early 80's

A £10 special - which I added pacer wheels to

A Variflex (second hand) board

A £25 nasty Skaterags deck with nearly no concave

A Second hand powel Sword & Skull - with new slimeball seconds & indies

A Fricken awesome Lucero "street thing" which lasted about a month
Image

A "cut your own" blank that I chopped into shape with a hacksaw - it weighed a tonne, so I got rid

A Planet Earth (?) board with the same indies and Alva Street Skins.

Re: What Boards did you skate ?

Postby slick63 » Thu Jul 21, 2011 6:59 pm

In the `70s I started with a Super Slalom, plastic deck, plastic wheels, open bearings, truck rubbers which were plastic. Absolutely dire cost £15, a lot of money in `78, I feel guilty pestering my old dad to buy it.
After that my mate and I raided a load of dens in the woods, and anything we found we sold in a second hand shop in Plymouth. I amassed enough to buy a pair of ACS 430 trucks and some second hand Gecko G3 wheels which were shagged, I replaced the bearings but it did no good. Deck could best be described as a lump of wood.
Next was an Alley Cat complete for £15.95 new, wheels were super soft and fast, trucks were midtrack copies, plastic deck was replaced by a wood one made by a mate`s dad.
Then I bought a wood fake G+S deck with ACS580 trucks and red Kryps for £25.
Bought a Westcountry rocker deck and fitted the Alley Cat midtracks and red Kryps, deck snapped doing an elevator drop a couple of months later. One truck snapped doing a grind and was replaced with one of the 580`s.
Ended up making a deck out of builders blockboard, huge thing it was and ugly as sin but worked a treat.
Onto the late `80s I picked up a cheap Variflex type board at a local discount store, fitted the red Kryps and used that for about five years, still have it hung up in the shed.
Onto 2003 bought a popsicle from Woolworths when I was on holiday, used that for a year until I moved to Cornwall and dug out my old board at my mum and dads.

In no paticular order... Or, well, sort of order...And prob forgot a lot!

Bananana board (Skinny type board handed down from my brother... He had painted 'Saxon' on the deck!)
Another skinny board (bought from second hand stall at a traction rally in the 80's)
Crappy Turbo 2 cheapo thing (Toy shop job, I stuck rollerboot wheels and better bearings on it  My first wide board)
Variflex (I thought this was the bees knees when I got it... Thought it was well Pro! I'm pretty sure it was a jumble sale buy?)
Pacer (Neil Danz rocket type graphics I think)
Powell Hawk Skull (Spoon nose shape)
Powell Cabellero (Dragon graphics and Bats)
Santa Cruz (Roskopp face)
Powell (Hawk bird with the long neck)
Schmitt Stix Bryce Kanights
SMA Natas (Panther)
Zorlac (Abrook)
Alva Eddie Reategui (Monkey face)
World Industries (Think it was a team deck)
Girl (Had a sort of womens toilet style graphic from what I remember)
Element (Team Deck) (Current)
Sector 9 (Has a pool ball type graphic, nice old school shaped board) (Current)
Cheapish longboard (Dunno the make but ace for cruisin) (Current)
Powell (Hawk Medallion) (Current)
Mountain Board (Big chunky blow up tyres and footstraps) (Current)

Used to do lots of swaps with mates back in the day, so I've had a couple of Vision, H-Street, blanks and other types of deck. I can't remember to much after the cider addling my tiny brain over the years. :D :?

Just remebered a Death Box (Pete Dosset)... How could I forget that! Awesome board!

Schmitt Stix Andy Howell first (green stain rather than pink) I would crawl over broken glass for one of these

Then a Powell Tony Hawk Medallion, the concave on the tail threw me for a bit

Then for some reason an Airbourne Red Hot Chili Peppers......but the shape did suit perfectly

After that I had some popsicle deck with tiny wheels as fashion dictated and I fell out with it all completely..........now i find myself looking on a lot of skateboard websites again, weird

I'm with Woody, no way I can recall em all as it's going to be over a 100 minimum and then there's the boards that I've had multiples of including wall hangers and that I've skated so it would all get very confusing. I can't even remember how many boards I've had from different brands, they'll include:

Zorlac
Santa Cruz
Tracker
New deal
Plan B
GIRL
Black label
Chapman
Consolidated
Unabomber
Palace
Blueprint
Think
Real
Anti hero
Krooked
AWS
Chocolate
Skate mental
Landscape
Baker
Hollywood
Toy machine

I'm sure there's more. Tend to have favoured boards from the deluxe camp - over 20 that I can remember, with crailtap in second.

My first board was a Zorlac Abrooks, and current is a AWS Dylan Rieder though this is probably going to change pretty soon as I'm not that keen on it. Fancy something a bit different next maybe a western edition, hopps, familia or magenta.

I used to have a list of the boards i have ever owned
far too many...
I seem to remember about 18 years ago working how much I had spent on wood over the years.... and that stopped me adding more to the list
off hand i am sure it was enough to buy a new 3series BMW

When I was younger I kept a list of every board I had since 1986. If I can find it I'll post them

After seeing "Skaterdater" which was the support movie to "Rollerball" in 1975 -

An old floorboard pointed at one end with a rubber wheeled non turning rollerskate cut in half and screwed to the bottom (skates stolen from someones little sister)
A mahogany draw front crudely shaped to resemble a surfboard with a nylon wheeled turning rollerskate cut in half and screwed to the bottom (skates borrowed from Great Yarmouth roller rink)
A rubber wheeled "Surf Flyer" with brake!!
A Super Skuda
A bright orange Newporter polyprop which was later upgraded with yellow "Centaur" wheels with sealed precision bearings!!
Homemade ply deck with Mk1 70mm red Kryptonics and split axle Gullwing trucks (with support bracket)
Benjyboard Jeremy Henderson (weighed a ton) Lazer slaloms and Skuda SK3's later upgraded to Powerflex 5's (each wheel a different color)
Alva pig, 9" Lazers, Powerflex 9's (wish I still had......)
Bad Co Kurt Kimbal, Megatron trucks, Dogtown rock and roller wheels.
Variflex Voodoo complete (crap)
Brand-X, Indy 169's, OJ speed wheels
G&S Billy Ruff, Tracker sixtrack ultralights (with copers) OJ slime balls ( full plastics, rails, nose bone etc)
Current ride- Dogtown Wes Humpston, Tracker sixtracks, Original OJ's 78a (each wheel a different color)
