Found something new in Johannesburg

Postby flatfourfan » Tue Apr 28, 2009 11:14 am

Well by new, I mean fucking old, built in 1997 I believe.

Known as the troyeville city bowl. I found this after reading a local rag called session and they referred to this sucker as being in Johannesburg.

Image

Seems to be pretty low and mellow with a lot of flat in the session magazine, so I dunno how fun this is going to be. But after doing a bit of searching on the web, I found the people who built it and where it is, it seems that it's a whole lot deeper and a lot bigger. Still mellow though.

Image

There seems to be parking right next to it, so at least I can watch my car while I skate, cause this is a few blocks away from Ellis Park Stadium which is not in the best of places in not the best cities in the world to be in, in the best of times.

Image

Stay tuned, I'm going to give it a go this friday after work before the schools knock off.

Have a crack at Germiston while you are down there if you haven't already. Wild ride snake run into a massive bowl. ;)

Nice park by the lake too, not far from the airport and country club. I seem to remember it was an ok area. ish. 8)

Me in about 91:

I think I found it on google maps:

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=&daddr=-26.235552,28.161339&hl=en&geocode=&gl=uk&mra=mi&mrsp=0&sz=18&sll=-26.235683,28.16136&sspn=0.0037,0.004828&ie=UTF8&t=h&z=18

p.s. I may well be coming to SA this year. Maybe September.
Not sure If I'll make it up that way though, my brother's in Cape Town.

I've been to the germiston park and it's pretty cool. But with the roadworks going to the airport from Pretoria it can take you 2 hours on a good day to get out there.

Trev did you look at the rest of the map, there are a shit load of swimming pools in that area.

I think I need to do a day trip to Jhb and see what other concrete there is.

here's the GPS #'s for the germiston bowl.

-26.235669, 28.161371

Search it on google maps if you want directions, it's right next to Germiston Lake.

Skated it today. Fuck me it's fast, i mean really fast. The bowl was about 1/3 full of water, so u could only skate the snake run. Going to hit it again next week. We took pics and i'll upload them in the pics section next week. Did i say that it was fast? Good crete for 20years plus.

Um... yes. Nah I had them again briefly a couple of years ago and now they've kind of gone again.
I like to stay attached to the ground these days, mostly. ;)

However as I updated this, my buddy informed me that the area is very dodgy, even more so since I was last there. Never go there in small groups or alone, he said that the last time he was there, a crack whore walked into the bowl and took a shit in the middle as she was trying to sleep.
