Dawn session at Sunbury Cross

Postby Drsplib » Wed Jun 05, 2013 7:17 am

Went for a skate real early to avoid the little shits. Glad I did, because i was sooooo shit! Have really forgotten almost everything I knew. I found the bowl was pretty whippy when dropping in, hit the lip and bailed but ended up with one foot on the board doing the splits - not good for my poor knees. Place is worth checking out tho:

I'm gonna limp off to work now. My knee hurts...

What time did you have to get up to find a skate park that empty?

looks like a great place to re-learn everything, similar to my local spot in Halton a village near Lancaster. My first 4-5 outings were daytime so I would find the place empty, a year later and I'm not phased if its busy just a bit frustrating having to wait...
I tried to get a ride at the skatepark in Bushy Park just over from Kingston Bridge last year but you needed to pre-register by post, it had a fulltime caretaker, some kind of re-offender/ youth training scheme, bit of a pain but it kept out the dregs and was nicely swept, when I went all the skaters were waiting whilst the caretaker swept out the water and was drying the place with a mop!

This place looks great. What's it like to skate ?
Wouldn't mind getting there early before it gets busy (if it does get busy)
How often do you MAS'ers meet there ?

went down to the place a couple of hours ago to check it out. there was 2 dads and their very small boys. it had been lashing down a bit before. parking is a bit thin on the ground but you can park in sudbury train station carpark for £2 on sat/sun
the place is a bit scabby, its mostly just litter (loads of litter) but the skating areas seem ok with the odd hole here and there.
i stood on the not so interesting side and took a panorama pic of the place. heading up there tomorrow morning for an early sesh, will report back after

If you are lucky, there is parking on the road opposite (Downside). Drive down the hill with the park on your right and its first on your left.
Or 5 min walk to Springfield Grove where there are almost no yellow lines.

Welcome back from holidays mate.
David and I skated Sunbury last week. Went early and got an hour or so before the scooters and bikes started showing up.
Have a Google for Epsom skate park. There's 2, I went to the Cox Lane one today and it was good fun. Met some guys down there and they said the other place is good too. I think it was long Grove but not sure.

Anyway, welcome back mate and hope to see you at bay next Friday

Hi Cuz, that was me and my daughter at Cox lane this morning

Long Grove is the other park, as I said this morning it's a better place to skate if you like bowls but there is no run in so you need to know how to drop in really.

However, as you may have noticed me and my kid are quite a way from being that competent yet so Cox Lane suits us fine 8)

after you left some other older guys turned up and they were pretty good. they were a nice bunch and we chatted for a while. i didnt go back in, didnt want to embarrass myself, lol.

if you can make it up to bay on friday i'll see you there, if not i'm sure i'll bump into you down cox lane again.

I've not been back since my OP - got injured last year just after that.

Everytime I drive by (late PM/early evening) there seems to be at least 30 kids on scooters and BMX in there. Never yet seen any skaters there.

Pretty lazy on my part but I prefer to go skate OWP in Oxford mid week with a good crowd of older dudes than have to battle out a run with a load of mouthy kids - I live just up the road during the week and there are some right mouthy little shits around there. I can't ollie for shit and hips are still a no-go for me, so only interested in the bowled end really.

Would be up for a pre-work skate if anyone is up for it? Say, between 7 and 9?

Andrew.
