At least you'll have a gnarly scar at the end of it :?

Yes! they're surprised at the healing. Off pain killers in 1 week, no opiates 24hours after surgery and they're expecting to be entirely cast free in 3 weeks!

As for the scar, that's just 1 of them. I have another on the other side of my arm ;)

I now know there are 2 plates, 8 screws and were 32 staples!!

Just thought I would update this to say my thumb movement is coming back quite quick now. Though, I still have 11 days till my next xray.

I had my appointment today.

Cast is now off, but I am not able to lift or do any heavy work or impacts for at least 6 weeks as the bones are still healing but are now "stable".

I will be back in 6 weeks for more X-Rays then hopefully start my physiotherapy as it's still too weak to start now, but my focus is first getting my normal range of motion back in my elbow and wrist as everything is very stiff.

As a bonus though, enjoy some scar pics (pre-wash(pre-nicest bath ever!))

Seems to be good news so far. Are you still looking forward to starting skating again?

Certainly, but from todays appointment with my surgeon, it may be a long road to any contact, or even being back to work.

Sorry to hear that Phil. I think I saw positive in the word 'stable'

It's been a long recovery, in fact over 18 months before playing a sport. I still don't play any contact sports, I started refereeing instead of playing!

But I am back to playing hockey, the mental impact was worse than anything. But guess who has another board.........
