Yowch. I had similar, and had big mango-sized swelling on my hip at one point in the past after repeated slams on my "greater trochanter" - the protruding bit at the top of your thigh bone, rather than actually on the side of my pelvis - looks like yours is the same place.

Obviously padded shorts is what some people on here use. I've made this out of 2 layers of camping bed foam:

I tuck it down the side of my shorts, and tie it to my belt or beltloops. (that's a bit of thick speaker wire rather than string, holds with just a single knot easily). It works, although I'm thinking of upgrading to 3 layers instead of 2 :)

Ouchy. My hippers never look that bad but due to repeated injury to the same area it's become hella sensitive and sore ALL THE TIME.

Before my last slam yesterday I had a half mango size swelling just at the tip of the hip bone, almost no bruise. I think that one bursted or something yesterday, the huge bruise came after that. Asked my dealer for a pair of padded shorts today, will buy them from him next week. This is just to much pain...

Anyway, skating tomorrow.. I'm no football primadonna.. ;)

I slammed hard last weekend. Joined your club.
Still painful. Glad I had the other pads on; wrist, elbow and knee ok.
Bring on the padded shorts.
