Hernia

Hey guys,

I'm pretty sure I have an inguinal hernia on the left side of my abdomen. I'm guessing skateboarding (pushing) may exacerbate the strain.

Anyone have any experience with hernias and skating?

Thanks!

You need to get it checked out.

I have a hiatal hernia, and it used to bug the shit out of me for YEARS. I could have gotten surgery, but with proper meds and loss of a bit of weight I don´t even notice it unless I slam the wrong way or lift something really heavy.

Yep, I've had an inguinal hernia... It was before I got back into skating though.

I was pretty worried about exacerbating it. My doctors advice was essentially that if it's going to get worse it's going to get worse, so don't put your life on hold, just get on with things and try not to worry about it.

I had it fixed about 18 months ago and it's been ok since.
I get the odd bit of pain/soreness around the repair from time to time, but typically from coughing, lifting, or straining. I don't recall skateboarding ever upsetting it.

Best to get it checked out, if it is a hernia it's not going to fix itself!

Skov,

Thanks for the info. Did you get the mesh? Are you in your thirties/forties?

Yeah, I got a mesh repair via key-hole surgery.
The first couple of days afterwards were somewhat unpleasant, but the recovery was pretty quick.

I'm in the second half of my 30's.
