Perth

Postby shat fink » Mon Jun 07, 2010 12:08 pm

Been thinking about getting a job in Australia and seems it would be most likely in Perth, doing what i do.

Been there once for a surf trip and loved it but whats it like for skating transition and downhill?

Thanks for any advice.

A big choice of parks, check here:

Generally its flat but does have some good hills depending on how comfortable you are around traffic etc.
There are also lots of good cycle paths if enjoy a bit of a push & cruise.

And of course weather that allows you to skate most of the time.

Thanks for the info

All looks pretty good for skating then. What kinda hills we talking? Are there any mountains nearby?

Might be a good move to make seeing as work is drying up here in the Middle East, plus its about 50 degrees outside today!

Question is do i quite here and go there job hunting or do i try and get something sorted before i go? Hmmm

No mountains but to the east of Perth you have some decent hills. Whether there are any good runs down through them I don't know but would be interested to find out.

Better to look into work availability before going but that really depends on what you do and if you need a work visa etc.

Funnily enough later this year I'll be working offshore of Saudi which should make a change from the cold and perpetual daylight I've got now in Norway.

Sounds like it might be worth a recce there to check out the jobs and the hills first. I would need a visa to work there although what i do is fairly specialist which may help, i also have some contact with companies there which im in the process of contacting. Worth a go anyway, you never know, gotta be better than a return to the cold of the UK.

Offshore saudi will be a fair bit warmer than Norway, especially now, generally ok if the rig is modern but some of the older locally owned ones are dire to say the least! Spent a month on a support rig whist another was being commisioned. 6 to a room and zero facilities or cleanliness!

I'm on a seismic ship which I'll be bringing with me so other than when I go outside it'll really be identical to working here.

Let me know if you do get to Perth. Occasionally I actually go home.

Plenty of tranny skating going on SF :D , a sick pool or two every now and then as well. No big mountains as Gaz said but there is a downhill scene and a few decent hills around.

Feel free to say hi if you head over and we'll show you around.
