My first proper skateboard - Alva Bill Danforth mini...

Here is my first proper Skateboard, bought from Split Skates in Manchester in 1988, I think? It has black Venture trucks and Santa Cruz Bullets wheels. Hope the picture shows up, if not I will try again.

What do you think?

Ha!

I discovered the correct code needed to display my pics so hopefully you can all admire my purchase from yonder 1980s.

Cheers!

digging the lapper

I'Ve been seriously considering getting one to help overcome my fear of fakie rocks at a certain indoor bowl with horribly set coping

Alright Ladz!

I have still got the deck albeit in a shocking state, but I dont know where the trucks or wheels went, I dont even know who / what the couple of skateboards I currently ride are, they are of the more modern type with the double kicktail and are slightly narrower with narrower Independent trucks that my Alva board had. I always pick up skateboards when I see them going cheap at the car boot sale, the two I have at the moment I paid only a few quid each for but they are great to ride. My step-daughter and her friends love riding my skateboards too and my wife thinks they are a bad influence on young lasses ! ? What can I say - stick to your Barbie dolls girls?

Alrite Andy! You can have a look for old skateboards at the car boot sales but obviously you arent guaranteed to find any, the latest type of decks / trucks etc are more common though and you might find them, I have also purchased a few of the plastic type complete skateboards from the 1970s at boot sales before - Grentec Coyote type things, but in over 20 years of buying at thousands of car boots I have only ever found one solid wood skateboard from the 1970s, I dont know what make it is, I will post up a photo of it when I take one. They are rare as hens teeth!
