boomer's 2011 year review

2011, well it's been a great year & a bad year at times,so i thought i would share a skip rewind of my year with you..,

still sporting a very knackered ankle courtesy of bad break at skaterham in 2003 , 2011 started out with the kaoss jam at bar beach in newcastle nsw australia, this pool is the newest that i have near me & is pretty damn nice, way better than bondi .

bar beach

the crew

a shralp
Image

then travis pastrana rolled into town with the nitro circus tour along with the megaramp which was cool to see
Image

mid way throught the year i came back to the uk for the first time in 6 years,to catch up with old friends & spots..

tim , jon & me @ voltage studio's bradford
Image

ramp city ( cheers woody, carl ,dre andy & crew)
Image

saffy was hit, along with shoreham
Image

hello rom my old friend..it'd been a while
Image

cheers to martin for showing me the new spots around the hometown in essex, catching up with zorlac was funny

then it was was off to the states for a month or so...

hooking in with the old man army crew in arizona was awesome
chandler 110 degree heat..
Image

stopped off at flagstaff northern arizona on the way to the grand canyon, fun little park..
Image

onto california ,the new venice park is rad..
hooked up with bennett harada , he has the best layback
Image

the snake run is superflowy (is that a word? )
Image

highlight for me was skating bicknell hill again..
Image

Image

probably one of the saddest sights i saw was the zephyr shop, now the area is being re-developed
this is probably the last shot you will ever see of it from the inside (don't ask how i got this shot lol )
Image

the cove was hit along with san jose, culver city,

glendale was a rad sesh as i got to skate with grosso
Image

then out to orange to skate the combi, the day i was there i had it to myself, the yoof seemed all to interested in the wooden quaterpipes in the other part of the park, they have made a great improvement by redoing the combi, the depth is about the same size at the pool at bondi..
Image
Image

one spot i had to hit was longbeach in southern california,i saw the convention centre where the 78' freeformer world championships were held ,oh & this is for all of you that remember this place
Image

scene of some of the very first downhill events in the late 70's, the hill is fast & smooth, & a total bust, skating fines exceed $500 a time.
Image

it was back to au in august, i have been racing in the national australian race series, which includes head to head downhill, ditch racing, hybrid, super g giant slalom etc ,this has taken me alround australia

mountain ditch nsw
Image

melbourne
Image
Image
Image

mount stromlo canberra head to head
Image
Image

canberra- mount ainslie drain, aka 'the teeth of doom' you just have to grab yer bottle & go for it on this bitch, rougher than rom, you have to ollie the sections,if you bail you die its that simple...by the time you hit the bottom part of the track you are hootin'..
Image
Image

the last round was the super g event held in the blue mountains nsw.

so now the national series has just finished there were 132 racers nationwide competing all year, i finished 2nd in australia my national seeding now carries me with this place into the 2012 series, alright i suppose for an old dog...

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc ... i8YB#gid=0

other highlights this year was competing in the 45 + pool skating at frankston skatepark for the moss jam event ( melbourne old school skaters) were i bagged a trophy for best international..
this is frankston..
Image

i got to skate the private globe HQ warehouse ramp in melbourne in oct, 40 foot wide of the best ramp i have skated in oz..
Image

start of dec i skated the new 2million dollar extension of belco skatepark in canberra, the snake run is wicked..
Image

the old keyhole pool is still in the park, it's a giant..
Image

me at the night session, see the scale from the guy standing at the roll in will give you an idea of size..
Image

also a change for me this year is my departure from long association with concrete wave magazine to hooking in with australian skate mag heelside http://www.heelsidemag.com as principle transtion journo...it's a rad little read ,that is just getting better & better.

dec the 14th was the day i was not looking forward to as i was in for elective surgery on my knackered ankle that i have been battling with, cartlidge was taken back down to bone & the box of broken biscuits was removed..$$$$$$ later...

Image

so hoping to come out all cylinders firing for 2012...
had the stitches out today , had the cast removed, & a full support boot fitted, thats me on crutches for the next 8 weeks,
happy xmas to me...
Image

going mental sitting around,so i thought i would just rewind my year for mas...

drinks allround b~ happy christmas middle age shred *<:-) , you rock , keep rollin everyone ... ~.. x-x ...boomer

Brilliant pics mate and hope the ankle heals soon

The Zephyr shop is sad sight and given its place in skate history should be made a listed building (does the US have such a thing :? ) What were all the trophys on the floor ?

That teeth of doom thing is just mental
