Triggertrap

Here's something interesting.
The 3 pictures below were triggered by sound, courtesy of Triggertrap.
Triggertrap involves a free app, which you download onto your phone, and a £30 cable/dongle. You plug one end of the cable into your camera and the other into your phone's headphone socket, and that's it. The app allows you to trigger your camera by sound, by vibration, by motion detection and by face detection. It also allows you to set an interval timer. This was my first time using it - it seems pretty good!

I imagine the 1st & 3rd photos were taken because of the sound of the board hitting the coping, but what sound triggered the 2nd picture? You're in the air, so did you shout?
Does sound like a cool gadget :D

For the air I had to make sure I hit my tail on the coping - that did it!

There are different modes - sound detection was the one that seemed to work best on that occasion, but I've not fully explored all the other options yet

Interesting.
I can see that coming in handy.

I discovered the other day that my phone cameras has a setting for sound activated capture, I just have to shout "Cheese!" or "Capture!" to trigger it.

8) Very impressive especially considering it was your first use. All 3 pics are captured at the perfect moment and are in focus. The poor man's way would be to take frame grabs from video, but the trigger trap app remove the need for going through vid to extract a frame.

Could you post a pic showing how your camera and phone were mounted on the platform?

Think my voice trigger would be "Oh F**K"

Here's how the camera and phone were mounted. The camera was sitting on the platform on a mini-tabletop tripod (Manfrotto, cost about £15, I think). The phone was sitting next to it on a tiny flexible tripod (Gorillapod, with a £2.50 phone holder from ebay), and that was about it. The camera had a manual fisheye lens on it, prefocussed on the spot where I expected to be. On the sound activation setting you probably wouldn't need any kind of tripod - just put the phone down on the platform. In my experience, skate shots work well with the camera low down, close to platform level

I was wondering about this, thinking why not just trigger the phone's camera by sound rather than triggering a separate camera? It doesn't sound like the Triggertrap app does this but I guess they want to flog you the £30 accessory.

I'd be happy with shots from my phone camera though rather than lugging a DSLR around. Is this possible with an iPhone does anyone know?
