On the other hand... this was waiting for me when I got home tonight and it is AWESOME!!!

TWS has only recently gone fully digital but getting hold of a printed copy in recent years was only available through subscription.
I always preferred TWS to likes of Thrasher as it was more about the skating and less about all the other crap like fashion, music and the like. I still occasionally get my first ever TWS down from the loft for a nostalgic read. Here it is from ‘86. Some skinny kid called Tony Hawk is on the cover.

I did as well. Anyone remember the old thrashers that were on news print that left your hands covered in black ink?

Back on topic. Not quite ready for it yet but I love this shape and their wood so Im ready when the current one is finished.

It is. Scram is Nolan Johnson's company that was started after Jason (that owns welcome) screwed over almost all of the original riders. The names a jab just like Blind was to Vision.
Ahh. I forgot about the smell of the og Thrashers!

Grosso's pictured often there in the Jokers skate shop signing stuff (his, John Lucero & Duane Peters local shop) i have been there a few times, nice place with many or their old used boards around the shop walls, they always remember me & are really nice, none of the arseyness you often find here! :D

got a set of oj keyframes for skating to spots to skate and walking the dog. I'd normally just ride my regular wheels but the roads around my new house are horribly crusty. Almost like skating gravel that's glued down. Gave my niece my old spitfire cruiser wheels so she could roll and get used to skating without worrying about slipping out and rattling her teeth out. Also a new 1/8" cutting board for my wife since I had to make some risers since they're conicals and you get waaaaaaaaay more wheel bite with that shape as opposed to the spitfire classic shape(my last were 56's as well and didn't need risers at all. never had a wheel bite issue, I guess its that extra 1/2" sticking straight out!). Live and learn.

Honestly, I've had the deck in front of me for a couple days, it's so pretty I'm hesitant to set it up. I really like the artwork, it matches the colour scheme in the living room, and I've also just started playing nice with my old Almost 8.125". So, it might be a hanger. I usually really enjoy fucking up a really good graphic, and it's all gripped and ready to go, but damn.

My first reaction: Wall hanger? NO! It's made for skating, maaaan! *Sprays spittle all over keyboard and screen*

Slightly more considered reaction after a moment: Hmm. It *is* very pretty, though.

Mornin' MAS!

Well, it is morning where I am.

Apologies for more lurk / less post, please find attached a small catch up of things I bought today (but not today)..

In April, despite being well into lock down, not going anywhere to skate & having a new(ish) board on the go, I impulse bought a deck from a new UK co..

Image

It's an 8.25.

The woodstain / graphic / general vibe / stickers made me do it.
--

May. The roads outside my house are stone chipped and rough as, so I used lockdown as justification to buy a set of 52mm / 78a Ricta Clouds.. then followed it up with a 9.75 Krooked Gonz Sweatpants to help soak up the bumps. Had to redrill the baseplates on my old Indies, but it's amazing and I love it.

Image

The rail has gone now as I haven't board slid since 1991.

Now.. to the 'Did you skate today?' thread.

Cheers.

Since Assault folded Rickys now on Legend (local Sacramento skater owned & manufactured) and figured I can always use a new punk point. Its time to resurface the mini so masonite and spar. The last I had on there was about 3 years old and left uncovered all that time so...FYI its still skatable, so masonite with oil based spar will save $ and time on outdoor ramps.

Plan9, those decks look great. I love the stain/grain.
Is the concave on the Winkowski as deep as it looks?

Got my next deck from Boarderco, an Irish company. I had some of their bamboo/maple boards years ago, but then they disappeared. They are back and 2 mates ride for them, so giving them a try. I asked the owner about the woodshop, and he wasn't forthcoming (used for years, trustworthy etc.) but will try the deck anyway. My mates decks seem to hold up really well, so fingers crossed. Also picked up sml 53s and bones big balls over the last few weeks.

Will do. I take it that loophole are NFG made.
They seem like good quality to touch, no threads and seem lighter that the size would have you expect (they are wide blocks).
I want to set them up, but the weather is shit. They seem harder than my usual, so I want to try them in the street first, not the already slippy DIY. They are 52D which they say is equivalent to a 103A (which doesn't exist). Definately want to getused to them somewhere not too slidey first. NFG have 30% off atm for your side of the world. They also have a new 95a.
I got they 54 V shape. The shop also had the same shape in 56, and 52 and 54 teardrops. I was tempted by the 56s too. Since I ordered mine, they got the 54 square in. They look nice too.
Anyway, I hope to get these set up soon and will let you know how they go.

Thats cool @JimBin. Just wondering if you guys have Gulf or Parafin wax over there? Its cheaper than candles(at least here) and is found at most grocery stores in the canning section. A box of 5 3"x5"x1/2" blocks is about $3. Ive had the same box for 2 years now and still have 1 unused and a third of the one Im using now when needed. When those are gone Ive been collecting the used scented wax from the wifes air freshener in cups so I can have the prettiest smelling curb around.

I have never found gulf wax over here, or any caning wax at all. I've heard it/seen it in many articles and videos from your side of the world, but we don't have it. I've no idea what regular poeple do with canning wax, but whatever it is, it doesn't seem to happen in europe. Means we got to improvise or else pay for the branded skate wax!
This batch cost 5 euro and a little time. It's my third time doing it, but i used tealights previously. Hopefully it works ok - different waxes work differently.

To be honest I have no idea either. I know the box has uses (canning, fixing drawers that stick, waxing skis, and some other wired stuff) but never knew anyone to use it other than my grandmother for zippers that opened slow or stuck. Did you add a little vegetable oil into those? I heard it helps but never tried(again paraffin is cheap and plentiful here).

Guys, I'm a bit nerdy when it comes to wax.
I originally made a mix of parafin wax and stearin tealights in muffin cases (a few years ago).
I didn't like the muffin cases, the wax was too small. It was great when you lsot it cos it wasn't a big deal, but a pain to apply.
Then I settled on used coffee cups - I got free coffee at work (pre-covid). I usually had my own cup but sometimes didn't and my office is in a different building. I recycled the disposable ones i used for wax and the shape is great for applying it. This batch are on their third use.
In winter, the waxes with stearin were too hard - they left shavings all over the place. They were fine in summer. So i moved to parafin wax only.
I used 8 bags of tealights the previous time i made wax and made 12 cups. I'm on my last one, so i made these. They are candles 100% parafin, but the outside is coloured and harder than inside. Hopefully they skate ok.
I had an old electric kettle that died (very hard water here) a few years ago. I threw out the base and was going to use the kettle as a flower pot. Instead, I removed the electrics and plastics. I fill that kettle with the candles, put it ina pot of simmmering water for 10 minutes, and then pour it into my cups. I make sure to let it cool slowly, otherwise it cracks.

This story makes me like your wax even more.

Good work!

So far, I have skated them on ultra smooth and slippy polished concrete, a paved plaza type, wet tarmac, and chipped tarmac.

They are great. My back 180s have improved and the vibrations aren't killing my knees. They are hard but not hard. They grind and slide nice on curbs and ledges. Lipslides have gotten easier. They seem lighter that the size suggests.

I haven't tried crusty crust yet.

Thanks for the write up. If I run across a set I may just have to grab them.

That seems like a great idea for a younger skater.
Let me know about it on the cruiser, please!, i'm interested in not killing shoes.
