I'm Pete, I'm 38 and when I can make the time and my body is working I ride a skateboard...that qualifies me as a middle age shredder right?!

I used to love skating the mini at Playstation/Bay 66 years ago so news of the new mini build has excited me, when exactly is this old boys night? It's sounds like something I need to get involved with.

Cheers

Hi Pete, Old mans night is last Friday of the month 7-10pm, £7 entry and you get a beer and a burger too. There's quite a crowd of us from here get there every month so it would be great if you can make it.
Post on here on the day, let us know how to recognise you and the chaps will introduce themselves :-)

I am really torn.... Not ridden harrow since the late 70s.... But I do love my old man night out at Bay!!!

I know the feeling! I'll decide nearer the time based on (a) if the mini ramp is finished, (b) the weather & (c) my health (I'm still recovering from a chest infection).

Anyone going to go down to Bay 66 before 31st? That's obviously halloween so I shall be trick or treating obviously

Desperate for a session at the Bay as its been so long and would be good to get a go on the new mini mid week. Any takers for a Wednesday night session before 31st?

Olly

p.s. will definitely be down for the November OMN.

The Bay66 miniramp is now OPEN
I rode it this evening - though as it was opening night, and free, it was packed with kids.
The pictures were taken just before it opened for business.

Pretty damn good, if you ask me. Despite the hordes of kids snaking each other. Smooth, solid and fast. Low end is great for warming up and learning tricks on.

I was there at lunchtime today.
It's half-term so the ramp was packed with kids snaking each other.
Which freed up the bowl a bit.
It's actually a very nice ramp, the mini.
And the popularity of it makes you wonder what was going through the park designers' heads when they got rid of the old one.

Odd isn't it. Never really understood why you'd go to a skate park and pay to Street skate. There are so many spots on the street where you can do all that and have all the rails, lumps and bumps... And half of it is the feeling of being a little subversive and skating where you shouldn't be... But i don't do it so is just my take on it. I think it's a very impressive skilful discipline but if I did it I'm pretty sure I'd find Street spots to practice

So I went last night and it was very busy- busier than I have ever remembered on a Wednesday night. I suppose that's only to be expected given the new mini and it being half term week.

Didn't get to skate the mini - too many kids and I am still too crap on mini ramps but had a pump round the bowl which was nice. Can't help feeling that the mini has dealt a blow to the flow of Bay 66 somewhat, and especially as they have changed the wall ride on the other side of it from transitioned to bank to wall, which seems to be to accommodate a door!! I really liked that wall ride so was a bit sorry to see it go.....

Need to try the park again on a less busy night to fall in love again I think.....

Hi All, I'm coming up to this old mans night tomorrow.
I got back on my board about 3 weeks ago and have done 3 early mornings at Biggin Hill Bowl.
I've met 1 dude from here (Howsit goin Lex ?) and look forward to meeting some more MASers tomorrow.
I'll be wearing a dark blue Indy shirt and skating a beaten up 16 year old board!
Cheers

Possibly my best night skating
excellent everything, my mojo seemed to appear
and fab to meet the usual suspects and even more new faces.
Cracking night and the guys have finally got the
beer/food to punter ratio sorted too.

Gotta be honest I wasn't really looking forward to it that
much since the demise of my learner section, I needn't
have fret though.

A good night, mini looks excellent. Stayed out of the bowl and kept it gentle to look after the dodgy hamstring.. Great to meet another two newbies, Andy and Ian, top lads, Andy been back skating 3 weeks and pulling off lip tricks on the mini, bastard :-)
Jon gave us a great demonstration of just why it's a good idea to wear a lid, imagine the headache this morning if you hadn't been wearing it Jon!
Note to self: bloody wear your helmet more often :-)
Quick vid of the new mini and the bowl.

Very sociable evening, didn't even break into a sweat.. Too busy chatting and watching other people ride the bowl on my setup with with super grippy new OJ wheels. Ian.. I know you're lurking, was good to see you there. Good to meet Andy and Gareth.. Nice setup Gareth... Andy.. Err nice 16yr old battered to hell setup :-) can't believe you're only three weeks in. Baz managed a whole session, first time in months, Jon gets the prize for slam of the night.. Looked like he was in real trouble for a minute there. Mark going well.. On my board. :-). Busta spent a lot of time by the bbq... Don't they feed you at home! Wasn't happy with my skating the wheels grip for sure but require twice the effort to thinner harder wheels to coax around the bowl but thanks for the compliment busta... Made my evening

Had a great time at Bay66 last night, back to reality this morn, kids waking up 6am!!!, feels all a bit surreal being back skating but lovin it.
Great to meet some of the guys off here and to Chat with Barry, Adrian and Greg.
Gonna get some new grip tape on my board today, make it look a bit more respectable. Hanging out for Christmas, I have an ever growing list of new shit I want.
Off to Unit 1 tonight for some more fun. Yeah

Great night. Personally good to have a board under my feet for what feels like an eternity.
Took very easy but that gave me plenty of time to chat with most if not all people.
Finally got a hello to bazza and a brief conversation with busta.
Great to meet Ian, Mark and to speak to Adrian after seeing him.
Also great to see Piers, Dave, Scott , John and Dave's cousin who's name escapes me .

Awesome chilled(for me) session. Just what I needed.

Will make sure I get to the next one :)

Hope the back is ok Today Jon? And that slam didn't stop you getting to Stockwell. Its all the name of progression sometimes you got to feel pain.

Everything hurts, must have been a good session! Head bit fuzzy today but that may be partly due to large amounts of medicinal beer consumed  Very glad I had the lid on.

Lots of good skating going on and a great vibe. Fun to meet new folks and good to see you out again Gareth, love the JJ setup.

The mini takes the pressure off the bowl nicely (and vice versa) and seems lovely to skate from my few runs. The bowl was slippy as hell so now we all want your wheels Ade! See what folks meant about loosing the wallride and messing up the flow, had thought you meant the wall in the beginners section...that new thing kinda sucks.

Bring on the next one...and clean the effin bowl

The bowl sits directly under the west way with x000 cars an hour passing overhead spilling diesel particles, shredded rubber and just general road shit.... So guess where a lot of it ends up... Yup in the bowl. So it'll never be clean even after a clean. I feel my body so rigid when I skate it just waiting for the slam that I find it difficult to skate and hard to learn in. It seems less slippy if you skate it like a mini though. I think the indoor parks that have crete bowls and wooden minis seem to have it right

It can be really quiet, maybe one or two others but depends on schools also, I've seen it heaving with scooters by 12.30 when schools are off. Tomorrow probably not so busy. Hopefully.

Can't wait to try out the new mini ramp, I'm going on Friday afternoon if anyone else is around? Aiming to get there for about 12.30/1pm.

Anyone know what bay is like on a Friday afternoon session on term time? I'm toying with doing the afternoon session then the old man's session straight after next Friday. Fancy some quiet time on the new mini

Hi Adrian

I've seen some pictures posted up on FB of people going in term time and the place was literally dead. You may get the odd student but unless there is an event on it will be quiet.

Funny thing is I was wondering what normal Friday evening sessions are like.........could we just gatecrash other Fridays and take over the spot??

Old man army!

I'm free to skate tonight (not tomorrow due to work) but unless I can find a flood light street spot or car park it's not going to happen

I've been toying with the idea of taking an afternoon off work to get some quiet time (while the kids are all in school) with the new mini, and to get more practice on the bowl than an old man session allows. Do they have separate paid sessions for morning/afternoon, or do you just turn up whenever and pay a daily rate?

Should be quiet Ben.

For Bay though there are no morning sessions. The place only opens at noon.

I believe the sessions are 3 hour slots but if you arrive at late at 1 you would still only be able to skate until the next session at 3 so you need to be on time for that particular session really.

EDIT : Session times are 12-4pm

At weekends the do have 10am -12pm beginner sessions but not sure if we qualify

7 squid for a session £10 for a day pass (many good times)

actually just go here (dont worry you dont need to sign up again) https://www.facebook.com/BaySixty6/app_ ... e_internal

Its best to just arrive at 12 and pay to skate one session in the week. The kids will join after school so I would avoid the 3pm onward session

I think Patrick is going to post up for another London skate day Mon 12th of Jan (I already have it provisionally booked off as I got wind from the book of Faces).
