9" + Boards have shaped my skating future

Postby Mark_81 » Tue Aug 13, 2019 1:05 pm

Ok for the last 2 months I've been skating the Heroin bigger egg, which is a 10 inch football shape deck............... its amazing. My "normal" go to width is 8.50 which I went back to yesterday. ( see whats your next ride thread ) Just fancied a familiar width & overall lighter set up. This morning I had the worst time - it was disgusting. Everything felt wrong that felt so right since I re-started 2 years ago. ( on 8.5's )

So my point is.............................. be careful going the big boy route with 9" + decks as you may never go back down! Don't get me wrong I'm not bummed I'm actually happy, as now I know what I like & needless to say the bigger egg is going back together tonight.

Picture to follow.

Happy shredding all - ~..

With you 100%. I'm currently on the 10.34 Winkowski and (these days) don't step on a board less than 9.75 (Polar Dane1).

Big boards just feel so much more stable and forgiving... and there's so much real estate there for sketchy landings. I won't be going back below 9 at any point in the future.

I wonder if it's because I/we originally skated on boards this size, so it feels more natural. Wasn't skating in the eras of the 7.75s etc so I've never felt comfortable on them.

Anyway, big = beautiful

This morning everything felt sketchy even simple tricks - it wasn’t fun to ride. I’m sure I could adjust but felt like a 7.75!

Just set up the bigger egg as before.
Indy 169 with super soft bushings
1/8 risers
Spitfire classics 55’s
Bones Swiss
Shorty’s hardware

It’s a little magic carpet looking but I’ve got over it.

Ordered the Dane 1 today for when this is done.

I"ve also been on the 9" kick as well. Stock piling as many as I can since the shape I love is no longer being made. Fat Boys for life!

Just in today... shape looks amazing! Not sure how the short wheelbase is going to effect me - will keep you posted. The bigger egg has some life left in it yet so will sit on the Dane for a week or two.
