Type-S wheels

Before I go out and trawl the world market place, I thought it would be best to enquire if there are any UK dealers / distributors for Type-S wheels?

Re: Type-S wheels

They are 'close to a Europe deal'. And have been for 18 months maybe 3 years when they reply to emails. i.e. they don't want to.

To be honest they don't offer anything different and why spend a fortune trying to break Europe with a team, advertising, blah, blah when you can spend little and make huge $$$$ in the US? Europe is peanuts really for lots of effort.

They are in talk with a UK Distributor ... and have been for a few weeks now, so fingers crossed. None of the BIG Uk distros are interested as they already have there big brands and it would take sales away form these.

Type-S wheels

First impressions from 1 session riding - very good. I rode the Tony Hawk wheels. First thing to say is they look massive on your board, even compared with other 60mm wheels, because of the squarish profile and wide running surface. Urethane looks sort of waxy and even though the durometer at 98a is harder than the Lasek model, it feels more 'rubbery' under your fingernail than Rictas, which feel rock hard. Ride just like Ricta Burnquist for speed, but a better and more confidence-inspiring grip on smooth wooden ramps. Don't collect as much dirt on the running surface as much as rock hard wheels. Next session I'll try the softer Lasek wheels

Re: Type-S wheels

rode my new set of laseks today. ordered them from america. they are a good wheel and certainly better for the gnarlier, older concrete here in oz. still slide well and not so unforgiving as spfs. would recommend to anyone who has to deal with the rougher stuff. dont know about on wood/metal though.

Type-S wheels

Interesting - rode the 98a Hawks the other day and the 96a Laseks today, both on wooden vert, midi and mini ramps. I imagined that the softer wheels would be grippier and the harder wheels slidier but unless I'm imagining it, it seems to be the other way round. The 98a Hawks seemed to me to have more grip on smooth wood. Could have been the weather/ moisture in the air on the day I rode the Laseks. Or could be the wider running surface of the Hawks. Or it could be my imagination. Great wheels, though!

Type-S wheels

I emailed Type-S. They said it's the wider running surface of the Hawks that gives them their extra grip.

Incidentally, has anyone been able to connect to the Type-S Facebook page? It's run by one of the wheel designers there, but on my computer I can't find how to post on their wall or add as a friend

I'm after a set of 96A 56mm or 58mm, if it's 98A, same sizes. Let us know if you get some please woody.

Re: Type-S wheels

£40 is taking the pee bearing in mind they are £20-23 in the States. Sounds like either Type-S are selling them to the UK distro at a way higher price than they sell to shops/distro in the states or the distro is taking the piss. Shipping and import dury/taxes etc does not add 100% cost.

Mind you it's not only Type-S. Bones are half the price in the states as are many others and the shops still probably have the same % mark up on them.

Re: Type-S wheels

Tons of stuff cheaper in the states due to exchange rates and costs of shipping. If thats where they are made then prices are always going to rise quite a bit. Plus your adding extra hands and mouths to feed in the purchase process. Strangley even Aussie import surfboards (DHD JS) are cheaper in the states than here? Depends how bad you want them.

Almost as if they don't want a larger market share. I'm not a business man so don't know but surely selling more units means less production costs so even selling at a cheaper price (therefore selling more units) your profit margin is higher?

Your average UK kid is going to see Death wheels, for example, at £20 and Type-S for double. 20 quid is half a deck, a T-Shirt, 3-4 sessions in a indoor skatepark, 44 cans of Tesco cider, etc. With a bit of forward planning £20 can be a weeks food budget for 2 people.

At least it's another choice I guess. It's one I want to have but cant afford it at that price - I'll just have to wait until they turn up barely used on eBay for less than a 1/4 of the price like I do with all the Bones wheels I've had :D

I'm sure the second hand wheels trade keeps the brand new wheels trade alive too. It's a bit like cars, those that can afford buy new, some buy 2nd hand, or both

tried out the 56mm Hawk wheels lastnight on wooden vert.

was impressed - they are fast and grippy, which surprised me as they look glassy with the smooth riding surface.

going to try them out on concrete next weekend if the weather is ok.

Type-S wheels

I have the bigger 60mm hawks - I was also surprised at how grippy they are, given how hard and fast they feel. They have quite a wide running surface for a modern wheel, which helps, I think
