Trouble skating steeper transition.

This is the place to put all the 'How To' in

Trouble skating steeper transition.

Postby nitetime » Fri Jul 13, 2018 10:07 am

I'm old (55) and a novice so please bear with me.
I can skate all the 'normal' quarter pipes and flat banks at my local park except one.
Its steeper, and throws me forward(ive tried leaning back a little), tried lowering my center of gravity but to no avail.
I get you have to stay 'square' with the board and maintain the center gravity but it still feels like im hitting a wall head on.
Hope any veterans out there can give me some tips.

Thank you

A quicker transition will do that to you. Try pumping up it (spring up from the deck as you ride up it). Practice there's a bit of timing involved, remain flexible in your legs so you compensate for any jolt.

The transistion is about 3/4feet then 5 feet of vertical. To be honest it dosen't look tight, but it feels soo alien when i attempt to skate up it(guess im too use to the mellow stuff).
Should my rear leg be bent more,,, if so by how much?? Any tips on stance/ foot postion would be welcome.

I’d be inclined to relax going into it. Just ride a little way up it. Do that lots of times until it feels natural. Then go a little higher, and so on, until you get to where you want to. Get there in small steps

dont try and kick turn up there on the vert, stay hunched, low and centered on your board, and slide your front wheels around not really lifting off the vert, ,make a cool sound, ride away :)

small steps as Warick says and stay loose and relaxed.
