Board for 9yr old?

Board for 9yr old?

Postby DRG » Thu Feb 22, 2018 8:16 am

Hi

My daughter is looking to start skateboarding but I am unsure on what size board to get.

She is 9 but never skated before so trying to avoid getting the wrong size which will end up putting her off! I have read in a few places about full size for about 10yr olds but then also others saying about scaled down boards so am basically confused:)

Any advice much welcome!!

i've never really understood the whole scaled down board thing, i'd just get her something around 7" wide normal length.

that said, i've no experience, only from what decks i see kids skating :/

Thanks, I was thinking similar. Makes sense and will last longer too!

I bought my son a scaled down board, but that was when he was 3 years old. now when he rides he uses it sometimes but will also use a 7.75" deck(he's 7 now)

I think it also depends on what she wants to ride, as far as terrain. I recently bought my niece her first deck. she is 12 but pretty small. I got her a 8.5 with some ricta cloud 9's for cruising but could ride park if she wants. when i got it for her its the deck she felt comfortable on. I kinda figured if she has a wider deck it would be more stable for her and if she really likes it she can change out later.

Would your daughter ride the same size, Bike, Snowboard, Surfboard as you ?
Mini's and MId's are there for a reason we could all ride something thats the wrong size but would we get as much enjoyment out of it ? I think not

Smaller decks have softer bushing, longer kingpins on most so you can get them turning right for the lighter weights, the wheelbase is correct so they don't have to stretch there little legs to wide for a correct stance .. its all got to be taken into account
