180 No Comply

I have been inspired by Chris K to learn 180 No complys.

Any tips?

This is really the first trick I have tried to do

Re: 180 No Comply

Prepare to say fuck a lot as you crack your knees and shins, apart from that have your back foot more toe side (like a 180 ollie) this will help keep the board under you, front foot fairly far foward (also have quite a lot of pressure applied to the front foot so that helps the board spring up), almost start to carve into it before the pop part, smack the tail down very hard and try and sort of scoop it round not kick it round (if that makes sense?) and be twisting your body as you step off, and your front foot needs to be coming back on board fairly quickly.

Of course all of the above may well be bollox as I have a fairly low success rate!
There is only one life, it is therefore perfect.

Re: 180 No Comply

I salute you in your decision to try the mighty no-comply Snakebite ... they're (AW) fun.

I would start with just straight no complys first tho, try doing them up curbs (less chance of hurting yourself, and it's a good way to get up curbs if you can't ollie).

Roll straight at the curb, pop your front foot off the board and onto the curb whilst at the same time slammin your tail down ...

Image

Scoop the board forwards with your back foot / lower leg, hitting the back wheels / tail on the curb, the board should pop up ...

Image

While it's still in the air, jump on it and roll away with a big grin on yer face 8) ...

Image

If you don't feel confident just jumping on the board while it's in the air, try catching the nose of ya board with your leading hand, then jump on it (so it's like a no-comply bean plant or sumat).

The good thing about these, you can do them really slowly to start with, then when you get used to the motion you can go at the curb faster, pop it harder and get some real height on them.

Here's a clip of a kid doing one over a curb (but he's flipping the board aswell, ignore that bit for now  )

Then, you can learn a hundred different variations, and make some of your own up ...

Apart from that, as Jase said, prepare to say fuck a lot as you batter your legs to fuck
"I've got this ache, and I though it was for sex, but it's to tear everything to fucking pieces."

Re: 180 No Comply

Yeah, I used to be able to do 180 no comply toe flips super smoothly when I was a kid, stopping the rotation nicely in mid air as I jumped back on. They seemed to come really naturally at the time, but I'm buggered if I can do them now without the board hitting the ground before I'm back on it.

yeah the tutorial is pretty rank, but its a good starting point for loads of other stuff, even ray does one at 1.39ish
we didn't call em no-comply shuvits back in the day - we called them bs 42s - some said 43s or nocomply varials

Re: 180 No Comply

ahh 43's-180 no complys-i seem to remember an article in one of the mags of the time had a guy called jeff klindt doing them at stevenage on the banks there,he even did one to tail 8)
the big problem with that tutorial is the slide bit-that'll only push the board further away, and really you need it to stay almost underneath you, scooping your trailing foot, using your toes, in towards your leading leg spins the board and keeps it under control far more.
its kinda the opposite for 43's,pop the tail and push it around with the heel of your foot, let the board get almost 90 degrees round before turning the top half of your body and jumping back on.the knack to it is when the board starts to rotate and you push round with your heel, you almost bring it back under neath your body.hard to explain in words alone,if it ever stops raining here i'll have a go at a tutorial, but as i've never done one before it'll probably end up as naff as that shuv it one

Re: 180 No Comply

just like in any rotation trick you should wind your shoulders up and then turn them into the 180 just like a 180 ollie ,you should almost have your shoulders and torso twisted a goodbit of the way around before you slide the front foot off and pop the tail , then youll have the momentum to follow through with the back foot and land it . Thats how it worked for me anyway .

Its best to think of the front foot coming off the board kind of like pushing down on a plastic ruler with your finger and sliding it off the edge while maintaining the pressure so that when your finger slips off the ruler pops straight up and releases the stored energy . Same with your board it is the front foot suddenly releasing pressure that causes it to rise and the backfoot and shoulders just guide it around .

Re: 180 No Comply

These are fun! :P I find that the pop with the tail foot needs to be gentle compared to say an Olly and that the pop needs to happen first followed by a smooth scoop round otherwise I just pressre flip the board. At first I got them around and landing on the ground before hopping back on then slowly sped up the hop-back-on to get the front foot back on before the board lands (need springy legs!).

Once you are getting them nicely, push the rotation further and go into a 180 revert/kickturn upon landing, then do that faster and push the rotaion even further - soon you'll be landing 360's which are a real buzz to do and look sick (Current trendiness [-we dont follow that shit right?] notwithstanding). Oh and I wouldnt bother with BS versions unless you like chipping chunks out of your shin bones!

if you bend your back knee in so thats its almost over the middle of the board, when you pop the tail your foot will naturally scoop the board away from your shins and bring it round 180

Re: 180 No Comply

Sink down as if to ollie.
Slide leading foot off board in direction of heel and simultaneously pop tail
Guide board round frontside 180
Jump on. Late at first, then earlier when you're more confident

Re: 180 No Comply

I know Ive already said this on another thread, bnut the biggest mistake I've seen people make with no-comply 180's, is getting the rhythm wrong, Its should be a nice fluid motion so that you 'bounce' off the planted foot back on your board, leave it planted a fraction too long and the board will be back on the floor and too far ahead to ride off clean. Its two 'beats' in the rhythm not three...1. plantbounce/180 sweep...2. stomp back down with both feet or one just after the other. Dont be a pussy...just like kickflips if you dont stomp that landing the board will get away from you. Probly just masssively overcomplicated that for you!!!!

go back up this thread and watch (a very young) Ray barbie and Chet Thomas......just cos its fuckin awsome......the essence of skating for me, just thrashin across town wiv your mates shralpin everythin in sight...ahhh they were the days.
I used to be able to do that...honest
