How gutted am I??

It's a topsey-turvey world! In one week I have receieved my new board, ridden it! Got used to it and had massive stoke on..deterioration of weather... Decide to take board for gentle spin and practice 'popping' off the tail...

Omfg!! I have somehow managed to snap the tail on my pride and joy!!!

I have attempted a glue together solution as if this was a broken bone it would be called a green twig fracture, it's not s clean break all the way though.

I have no doubt though that this will undermine confidence and reduce performance and at some point an embarrassing crack will have me ploughing concrete with my nose.

I understand from landyachtz warranty policy that I don't really have a claim and it's just a combination of naivety and plain bad luck that has brought about this situation - but come on guys a week??ffs

I plan to ride on until the inevitable happens or I can afford a replacement - already thinking Dervish flex 1 and fitting with the paris 180s and orangatang in heats from the landy...

Oh me - reality just nutted me right in the conk!

Re: How gutted am I??

that's some bullshit. snapping a tail in a week?

i know you guys (longboarders) pay a LOT for your gear - i would raise hell with the manufacturer.

good luck.

Re: How gutted am I??

Surely after only a week they would do the decent thing.
That sucks, And if it were me I would keep hassling them.

Re: How gutted am I??

Seems a bit odd.
Even if you are a little liable, and you admit as much, it shouldn't be that easy to snap a tail and I would hope the manufacturers would help reach a compramise.
Is this where I am supposed to write something witty?

UPDATE:
I have now spoken with Longboards UK who have said that the issue in not uncommon with bamboo boards, it can take only a slight hiccup with the construction process for some boards to be weaker than they should be, therefore there is some hope that when i send pics to them of the damage a replacement board is possible... keeping my fingers crossed!!

Re: How gutted am I??

UPDATE: well it's a no go on the board replacement. Landyachtz uk distributors, J and R sports took my board back and evaluated the damag and the diagnosis was user caused!

There we go!

I did write to tell them that it wasn't a glowing endorsement if them if you are spun able to progress as a rider because a small mistake could compromise the board- in fact that sucks!

So will buy a new deck on Monday! Better luck this time eh?

Re: How gutted am I??

That's bloody awful service, fuck the uk distributer go and complain directly to Landyacht .

Customer service is a fucking joke in this country, a known weakness should not be present and no board should fail after 1 week.

Re: How gutted am I??

I agree with Tony go direct to landyachtz, send them shots and see what they say, the distributer would not put your case forward as well as you can do yourself.
Also mention about Brand reputation and how its a small scene here in the UK etc, and how you are dissapointed such a long standing reputable company would take this action, i would be nice in the letter not threatening, you never know it might work but no harm in trying?

Re: How gutted am I??

guys thanks for your advice above.. all well noted.

as I said I have now bought a new deck as I cant bear to be without one while I attempt to resolve this and for your interest have copied the email I have now sent to Landyachtz to see if they will look to help make a customer happy again.

Dear Landyachtz,

I am writing to let you know of my recent woes.

Of all the boards to choose from having sold my wedding ring on eBay to mark closure of my failed marriage, I chose your battleaxe 2011 model. A great looking board with the dimensions I was looking for to help me progress my longboarding and as soon as I set foot on it I was in love!!

I had placed my order with longboards uk on 25th June and received the goods 27th and first ride was on 28th. On Monday 2nd July on putting a bit of pressure on the tail to initiate a bit of pop the tail cracked on my otherwise almost scratch free pride and joy!!

I reported this to my vendor and since than have been communicating with them and eventually the uk landyachtz distributor j and r sports. My board was collected but was judged not to be a fault with the board.

I am writing to you to contest that decision - the uk has a keen long boarding community and I am s member of forums where all aspects of the sport are discussed including equipment,in great depth. My feeling is that after 4 days of modest riding a tail on a board should not snap unless there was a fault in either manufacture and/or design, and opinion that Is shared with more experienced longboarders than me.

I am a realist and if this had happened even after 3 months of hard riding I would have accepted that the decks are to a degree consumable and consider the damage bad luck but accept it! But after 4 days of moderate riding?

J and r argue that I must have made a mistake on landing or something like that which to s degree I accept as a possibility - however I don't feel from landyachtz point of view for that to be a glowing endorsement for rider progression if a single mistake on a much enjoyed and far from extravagant manoeuvre leads to board failure.

Any way I have forwarded part of my communications with my vendor and have included some of the pictures I sent to longboards uk prior to my board being collected by j and r sports, who retained my board.

After falling in love with landyachtz and this board I am now bitterly disappointed at the almost instant loss of my cash and hope that you are able to intervene directly to restore my faith in your brand.

Best regards

lets see if i get a response.

at this stage do i want the board replaced? not sure but if they sent me a teeshirt and stickers i'd have something to show for my money eh?

Re: How gutted am I??

Good people - i thought i should post an update on this little saga:
i have in my hands as of this morning a brand new, hot off the press 2012 Landyachtz drop carve 40 - complete with bear 852s and 80a mini zombies.

I am super stoked and can't thank Nick Breton at Landyachtz enough for taking the bull by the horns.

Goes without saying Landyachtz will get my pennies in the future when i'm looking for a new toy!!

Peace..Out..

Re: How gutted am I??

Excellent, very pleased they came through for you. As I said earlier UK customer service is dreadful, always go direct to the manufacturer if you have a problem like this. The Yanks and Canadians know what customer service is.....the UK hasn't got a clue.
