Worthy of a bump I think.

Well I stopped of a Cuckfield for a quick skate at lunchtime today. The local school has an inset day. I knew a few of the kids there and we all say hi etc. before I start skating a kid I've never met before comes over and says:

'what bearings you got mate, how hard are them wheels'

I bet he don't ask any old gits that question again in a hurry, I had him bored shitless in no time at all

I told him they were 9000.

Try the ones in your wheels next, I'm sure that'd help even more so.

Kids ask me that question a lot, what is it about the ABEC thang that makes them so inquisitive? I tell them I have ABEC 1's to slow me down otherwise I go too fast

necro bump from page 6!

so on sunday.. my bearings on one corner gave up the ghost. completely fucked.. can turn the wheel by hand but it yields a nice squeek.. slight braking sensation while skating... since that was my 2nd set of Reds.. I felt a cvhange was in order.. Plus I probably caused it by running my wheels very loose (so the axle nuts protect the axles)..

so for no apparent reason i've chosen these for the very criteria that, they're black. we all know everything black goes faster.

nooooo! :P lol

was due a new set of bearings anyways.. but I will take a look at them out of curiosity.

i'm pretty sure i warped the outer ring.. as thats what i think i did to the last set. the wheel was the corner that takes the most of my weight when skating..

yes cored wheels may prevent that.. pretty sure my running loose approach contributed a lot too.. so i'm resigning myself to new bearings every year ish.. any excuse.. :)

You should fit new bearings every time you skate and rotate them clockwise after every run. :!:

Why not grab a handful of speed washers and pack wheels out until the end of the nut is flush with the axle if you really want to run you nuts like that?

Seriously though if you want that same rattley effect as having your wheels loose but without the chance of banjoing your bearings get spacers that are too big. If your wheels are designed for 8mm spacers get 10mm ones. You get a loose free spinning wheel that isn’t actually loose on the axle.

Here’s one. I’ve got a 8.25 wide deck. Should I go for 139s or 149s?

139s – Less wheel bite from the 60mm wheels
149s – Turn easier

I’m thinking of going with the 139s because 8.25 is probably around the widest deck I will skate so I will probably get more use out of them in the future.

Getting back to bearings, just what is the deal with spacers?

Being old school, I have to use spacers. Can't imagine not having them, but these new school types don't seem to give a shit. Should I start a poll? :?

first skate on those bearings last night.

conclusion. reason my bearings went tits up in the first place.. the axle is bent on my rear truck!

new bearings + a wheel from the front swapped to the back.. doesnt go round very well.

time to get my local SOS on to shiner then.. the NHS site says they DO replace faulty product, so hopefully shiner will honour that.

I skate 8.25 and use Ace33 which are excellent trucks and a good lighter alternative to indy's but 139's but they are the same size and the a perfect fit

According to the Sale of Goods act, your contract is with the retailer, so it's their responsibility to replace a faulty product. Then they can negotiate with the distributor/importer/manufacturer.

But I'm sure they will, as long as you have evidence that you didn't bend the axle after purchase...

To be fair Ron does seem to give good customer service. However working in the Gas turbine industry I know a tad regarding bearings. I very much doubt 40% claims also. Also the finer the polish on the raceway the easier it is to jam up.

However, if you are saying the bearings are guaranteed for life then fine. They are a bargain.

I'd rather talk about acidity indexes of oils operating above 400C.

wd40 is just a very light mineral oil, won't last long but won't do any harm.

don't confuse it with silicon based lubricants which are also ok but dont mix with mineral oils

lighter the oil, less rolling resistance, shorter time it's effective for
