distance trucks and wheels

Hi,
Got a kisiwa and love the deck but really getting into long distance stuff. doing the bath to bristol and southampton to poole so looking for good carving trucks and good distance wheels on the basis that the kisiwa has no cut outs and is a very wide deck .... new to the teckie side of things and would welcome suggestions so i can do some research. i'm presuming noone does trucks wide enough to absolutely eliminate the potential for wheelbite?

Re: distance trucks and wheels

If your getting in to long distance, you really want to look at long distance pumping. Easier than pushing when you get it dialled, even uphill.
I've done some with some wedged exkate trucks, but the most "common" set up seems to be highly wedged Bennet up front and a de-wedged tracker or similar on the back. Also I've seen some people take out the rubbers and replace them with a glued in spherical bearing (fun on the downhills).

Re: distance trucks and wheels

Wedged riser pads.
Basically if you put the thick end of the wedge towards the centre of the deck your trucks will turn faster. The LDP guys increase the turning of the front truck and reduce the turning of the rear truck, ie front truck wedge is as described above, but the rear truck has the thick end of the wedge towards the rear of the deck. I have seen double wedges used on the front truck.
Not all trucks work well with wedges.

Re: distance trucks and wheels

thank you so much ... i've just had a look at Exkate. they look awesome and reasonable pricing. i'll look out for a UK distributor. any thoughts on wheels? really want to keep my deck but it's so bloody wide and no cutouts (although it does have shallow scallops to accomodate wheels)

Re: distance trucks and wheels

Don't bother with the exkate's, for LDP they are not the best, I just had a pair kicking about and thought I would have a play.
Bennet vectors are the way to go.

Pumping a Kisiwa is cool!
Image
Bert is right - LDP is the way to go for distance. Miles and miles with both feet up on the board is great, and for all LDP wisdom go straight to the source where it all began - http://www.pavedwave.org

Kisiwas, Holeys and 70mm wheels should never get wheelbite with a 1/2 " riser. What's your set-up on the Kisiwa?

If you want to push long distance you might be better with a drop down deck. The Kisiwa is pretty tall. If you want to pump long distance, it's all about the trucks!

Re: distance trucks and wheels

Legend.

I see there was a link to P.Wave already, I missed that, apologies.
Another fun thing to do with a Kisiwa is to fit wide Revenges - the deck will be high, but no higher than set-up with Holeys and a fat riser, and wheelbite is impossible due to the lock-stop mechanism, with 75mm wheels even. Much nicer than Exkates imo, and makes a Kisiwa very turny indeed.

There's a long thread (mostly) about Sabres and Kisiwas and the problem of wheelbite here -

Re: distance trucks and wheels

thanks bud. wheelbite hasn't been an issue for me running the Grippins. think i just need to firm up the rear bushings a bit and get some bones swiss and give it a good run.

Re: distance trucks and wheels

You'll never regret wearing pads/helmet. It's very easy to regret NOT wearing them...
I proved that to myself.
