Peghill

Peghill this weekend, weather looks good esp for Saturday so Shefali tells us. Had three weekends away so going to try and make both mornings 07:00 - 10:00.
Sunrise is at 07:00 so could be a good arty photo opportunity for those that do.
Looking forward to a numpty skate while I remember what to do after a three week absence, bend the knees aaaaand rest.
Found a mini cubic in a conker tree the other day, aaaaaaaace.
Autumn is drawing in...........

Re: Peghill

Good weekend, managed a Sat & Sun early session, autumn around the corner - carpe diem and all that. Thanks to And, Lecky and Cookie for the usual help and inspiration.
Bloody cold Sat morning, had to clear ice from the car windscreen, fortunately not from the bowls.
Rolling drop in to the small half pipe is going well but still not managed to face the drop in to the blue bowl. Good move to get because when the ankle biters arrive and fill the blue bowl it would be good to be able to drop into the yellow to avoid the crush. Also facing the mental block of the coping! :?

Aiming to be there next weekend weather depending 07:00 to 10:00 as usual. If I make Filton Friday I may have to sacrifice one of the weekend mornings.

Bring all your pads next time and I'll get you dropping the blue, maybe even the yellow (really the purple)

Cookie - Dropping the blue or purple sounds good and yes I'll keep my pads handy.

Keith - been practicing your line but woefully short of getting it sorted but Rome wasn't built in a day. Noticed your thread regarding the ramp and am passing hints to the wife that an area of drive may have to be sacrificed in the persuit of axle stalls.

Weather for Fri and Sun looks pants with a slight gleam of hope for Sat. Keeping an eye on the weather.

Marvellous!
I'm on the hunt for some skinnies for Jake, he caught his trousers in his chain Sun afternoon and had a tumble in front of a load of kids - more pride hurt than actual injury.
Cookie and Lecky turned up later on Sunday morning but the ankle biters were swarming and they don't know the etiquette of taking turns or so it seemed.

Should see you there. :)

Re: Peghill

Saturday was an interesting morning; bowls were wet! Some drying with brushes and an old bit of blanket got the small half pipe dryish but the painted surfaces were lethal.

Good to see another new face ('Leggy mountbaten' I think) but conditions were not good with the wet and early ankle biters. Hope to see you again when it's dry enough to do something.

Did you get back in the afternoon And?

Yeah, met Cookie up there late afternoon - I arrived and was a bit freaked-out by the sheer numbers of kids there: very chaotic, but fun nonetheless! - had a pretty damn good skate for a couple of hours.
Hopefully next weekend will be a bit drier!

Yeh it was mental, when I arrived at 4pm there were at least 200 kids there (I kid you not) was going to go straight home but Andy was on his way up so thought I would mix it up with the kids for a while and wait for him. We ended up having a good session belive it or not. Got asked what abec's I had and if I was sponsored about 50 times

Glad i made it on saturday, good to meet you two, shame i didn't get to do much skating though. Interesting how different concrete is compared to the metal ramp in Cheltenham, reckon faster wheels are necessary. I'm going to try and be there early next weekend, looking forward to giving the place a bit more of a workout.

And / Cookie, you two are just dudes......... Wouldn't have had the bottle to skate in front of that many ankle biters - yet!
Cosmic - It will be crack open a beer time when I drop the blue / purple and have a mellow reflective moment not to mention giving it large when I get into work on the monday.

Slight change of mind there me thinks Mr Leggy Mountbatten regarding early starts on Sunday - could new kit have something to do with it
Fancy some Bones SPF of a smaller dia than I have at the mo but not too small because Peghill is bumpy.

Ankle biters get there from as early as 8:00 onwards but if there are enough Victor Meldrews which it looks like there may be we hog the bowls for a bit longer, usually up to 10:00. I'm going to try and leave Sunday morning free to extend if possible.

Yeah, that was a good morning, shame i had to tear myself away earlier than i'd have liked.
Apart from a quick trundle round Hereford the other day, that was my first proper session in a bowl since the early 80s, i'd forgotten how much fun it is.
I'll definitely be down again next weekend, weather permitting.

Pleased to meet you Steve.
Top session gents. Good thing about Peghill is that it's big enough to accomodate a number of us. Absolute top result the ankle biters not turning up till the best part of 10:00.

Managed to fall off right at the end and have ribs that are a touch painful!!!!!!!! Got back in and did a few more roll ins and outs of the blue mini half pipe to ensure it didn't turn into a bogey move for me. :%

Wife raised an eyebrow when I got home but reckons skateboarding is still good for me........... I get hurt and she (St Johns Ambulance Leader) checks out the injury whilst holding back a smirk.

Re: Peghill

Good session yesterday lads - very much enjoyed it - what's not to enjoy when the weather is sunny and there are no ankle-biters around! Still a bit frustrated with myself that I'm not progressing more but my confidence is improving so just another 10 years or so and I'll have the basics nailed

Nice to meet you too Cookie, hope to come and give Filton a whirl at sometime soon and meet some of the other regulars.

Andy - I think you are spending much time escaping from work to skate on your own as you seem to have nailed more and more stuff every time I see you.

Good job and dropping in the yellow Tony...sneaking away to nail something new while the rest of us were looking the other way! My kids also very much enjoyed meeting Jake and Rosie and want to know if they'll be there again next time we skate (oh and Emily wanted me to thank you for the biccies as well - you think of everything)!

Lets keep fingers crossed that the weather holds for a while longer and we don't have to abandon Yate for the winter.

Yeh! I know what you mean - the axle stall or lack of it is starting to annoy me
Good job and dropping in the yellow Tony...sneaking away to nail something new while the rest of us were looking the other way!
Felt like I needed a success after all the axle stall fails and the drop ins were feeling right. :D
My kids also very much enjoyed meeting Jake and Rosie and want to know if they'll be there again next time we skate
Jake quite often accompanies me to the park and Rosie if she gets up in time

More than welcome to biccies - almost essential with my ankle biters

Good session considering I looked out the back door and nearly didn't go! A bit bananas that the bowls were dryer than the rest.
Wasn't really up for much just mooching around and trying new lines in a gentle way. By the end of the session I was feeling a bit warmer and another hour wouldn't have gone a miss - shame :?

What was the name of the bearings And? Head like a sieve  Aiming to be there tomorrow between 07:30 and 08:00 weather reports look good. Not sure how long I'll last now my flask is broken.

Re: Peghill

You missed a cracking session chaps
Got the ankle biters ready and rolled up for 07:45 The place was a complete tip - the brain deads must have had a field day Sunday afternoon / evening, there was cr@p every where. Gave some little sh1t a bollocking for giving my little un some lip.

Couldn't even try the axle stalls because some tosser had puked down the curve in the mini half pipe! Carrot and dessicated potato down the slope complete with a puddle at the bottom :@~

Went home disgusted.

Re: Peghill

Really good session on Sunday with And,Tony, Nick and myself - thanks for all the encouragement and advice was good to start pushing myself again into learning some new skills. Cookie - nice to see you briefly - hope the Filton session was good!

Tony - sorry you had such a disastrous session this morning - such a pity when the place gets wrecked because the local scum have no respect for anyone else. The puke in the bowl is a new low though - sweeping litter is one thing but scrubbing the remains of one to many White Lightning ciders is going too far! Never mind a generator and lights - we'll need an industrial sandblaster soon to clear out the shit!

Have Thursday and Friday off this week so hopefully will manage a brief Filton sesh on Friday PM, even if I have the ankle-biters with me. If not then Sunday am is still looking good for our regular get together.

Hope to catch up with you all soon.
Cheers,
Steve

Re: Peghill

Yep, good session Sunday morning!
Peghill can be a bit grubby on the odd morning, today sounded pretty bad though - doubtful I'll go up there this week in the daytime unless I'm feeling particularly inspired, more likely to go next week when the kids are back to school.
Hopefully try and make Filton on Friday pm, maybe working maybe not!

I couldn't drive by without stopping and saying hello. Yep Filton was great, started off a bit slow but once the sun got up a bit and Marlo turned up with his lad Jamie we had a blast. Had to drag myself away just in time to get home for 1pm

Re: Peghill

Damn, 4pm and more rain in Yate: will it be dry for tomorrow a.m.?
Hope so, I'll be there at 7.15am if it is dry or dryish to sweep up and inspect for skatability.
Hopefully catch some of you there either Sat or Sun a.m. ... if it's dry!

Re: Peghill

No chance for me for a while, I have mashed up my right knee coming off a 50-50 at Horfield on a very waxed up coping. (note to self: take it easy for the first 10 mins and test the ramps out before going gung ho at it, will I ever learn?....probably not)

Re: Peghill

Oooooooooh! :% painful, always is with the knee. Good job it wasn't in April, hope it heals well and quick. Lots of sympathy from the wife no doubt.

One of the chaps turned up at Peghill the other day and went straight into a drop in!! Made me wince.
