Krammer wrote:I got them home that evening and promptly set about trying on for fit. At first I was a little concerned that the pads seemed to sit on the knee and the bindings / straps felt slightly alien and a little unsubstantial when compared to my 187s straps. I needn't have worried as the next morning I took my old bones down to Hayle for sunrise session. Once there I set about fitting the Deadbolts, this took a bit getting used to as one straps wraps under the pad body to velco and other strap wrapping over and attaching to the top velcro, forming a combo gasket feel. After a few minutes my concerns regarding the knee cup dissipated with my knee becoming enveloped by the pad. This must be related to the memory foam lining forming to the shape of my knees once warm. Straightaway I knew the pads were going to be comfortable, and over the subsequent hours I almost forgot I was wearing them. My knees were kept warm but not too sweaty by the end of the session.
It only had one opportunity to to test the protection factor, a minor 'bail to knees' but the pads soaked up the impact without issue, apart from the Hayle crete stripping the shine of the caps.I'm giving them another outing on Wednesday to see how they fair on the to Mount Hawke wood. I'm sure there'll be much 'bailing to knees' then...

I believe Trevenen will be there also and will report his own experiences of the Deadbolts...

I know Mike, Jonno and the team have put a huge amount of research into developing these knee pads but for me, they've a bit further to go. I'm totally sure these will evolve into great pads.
I like the fact that my knee is cupped over the top but I do not like the fact that the lower sides of my knee caps are exposed with only 5mm neoprene covering them. The Deadbolt pads are bulky on the front and will easily get pushed aside when bailing on round wall. I have compared them to my 187's and these have all of my knee covered, they do not move around and they do show plenty of wear on all sides of the pads. Their one weak spot is possibly the top of the knee cap as I have found out.
I wear large size 187s so was confident that the sml/med would fit. The foam fits my knee cap well but the rest of the pad is too big to be safe on my knees. I thought I had received XXLs??
Our batch should not have been shipped out with the strap defect.![]()
To be honest I would not have purchased them if I had tried them first and that is my own fault.
Can I return them to you Trevenen for a credit?
I know Mike and Des were pretty happy with their pads but they still need altering.
Please see this a feed back not a not winge'ing.
I would be interested to see other peoples views also.

If I was to compare these to 187's as they are right now , they would come off second best, purely in terms of the way I look at the construction. In their defense, I saw Mike Day take a couple of scary huge bails in the big bowl at Hemel, the sort when you're watching it makes you hold your breath! and he walked away with no problems at all. Des also said he was delighted with them. They are very comfortable, and it might be that the lightweight feel to them is counter-intuitive, having been used to the bulky solidity of 187's. Also, thanks to whoever had a little carpet kneeslide in them before I got them, I didn't notice the marks til I got them home the next day. Slightly used pads anyone?
BOWL TROLL wrote:Seeing as i also skated with these pads on Friday i thought i would give my view on them.
Firstly i was disappointed with the length of strap as i do av a pair of chicken legs, it then took me a while to get them holding up but with the help of my gaskets and some gaffa tape i managed to get them fitting reasonably
So set about putting them through there pace's, firstly i thought how nice and light they felt and the caps slide good but you can never replicate an incident unless it happens for real, so who had a big incident... yes moi. Now all i can say is im so glad i had these pads on cos i left my board at speed and carried on 8 to 9ft sqaure onto my knee's, in the short time it took me to hit the ground i was was thinking FUCK this is gonna hurt, then nothing...thats right nothing did'nt feel a thing, got up and walked away without any pain what so ever, now this would not have been the case had i been wearing my old boneless! Had a couple more bails but none like that so i would have to say they are extremely good in a square on landing and im glad i've got them.

I know there is a lot of belief in these pads from some very experienced riders who already have them.I have also heard that packing them without the retail packaging and physically marking the product, like with a label, as 'free replacement' or something, helps.
OLDMANARMY wrote:Let me make it up to you Jelly.. keep the pads and I will send you out another set along with anyone else that does not want to deal with the straps.
Our last manufacturer didot meet our expectations and so we moved onto another one. We will have our run done at the end of December and I will get them off the minute we get them.
Will that work?

I was just looking back at the photos at the start of the thread about the foam padding. I know there have been design changes but I do not have 2" of foam in my pads? I have a single main grey pad which is 25mm thick. on the inside is a comfy soft layer of pink memory foam (12mm?) My Deadbolts have 37mm of foam. No air pocket? Is this what you have Trev? As Mike has said they have changed manufacturers I am wondering if they have given Mike what he has asked of them??

Not trying to rock the boat Mike, but is this the final design with the new manufacturer as well?
I don't think an extra, what 150mm of padding ? will greatly effect my safety, ( I'm not gung-ho enough ), just curious to know if its design choice or manufacturer error.

I thought you said that if you messed with the straps a little bit that your set will work. I will send you another set also for the inconvenience on this first go around like everyone else.
No reason to get into what's happened with our first manufacturer. We were not happy with the end result and have moved on. The 2nd set you will receive will be made properly and I believe you will be happy with them.
I will need to compile another list. Please provide me with the sizes on what everyone needs. If you are unsure, measure 4" above your knee cap and around your thigh. Provide me with your measurement and I will make the correct size determination for you.

I guess if one of the guys who got mediums and isn't going to use them wants to send them down?
I only have XLs left in the box of unclaimed ones. Cookie, Craig (not on here) and Parker.
Not sure why Parker hasn't got in touch, I'll PM him.
I think the XLs should fit ok, for those that measured their legs right, as the straps are the right length.
The medium sets' straps are XL length as far as I can see, having compared a M set to an XL set.
Trevenen wrote:Hmm ok well I guess that's my fault as I didn't update my 'master list'. Sorry.
I don't have a set of medium for you. BUT I was short one set overall that I was waiting on Mike to send as I had someone who would kindly wait. Mike could you now rush those as a medium if you haven't already sent them, and send them direct to Cookie? that would work. Of course that's only if you still have stock.
I do have someone who I think would use the XL, He's got tree trunk legs.
