Re: huyton, liverpool, merseyside

What's the ratio, can we get away with turning up with 20 old farts and a couple of youngsters?

Don't know why i didn't read this before, guess it was far away from me, but then, everywhere is when you live down here!

Looks like an awesome combo with Ramp City on a road trip. Dry/wet options.

Do people want to hit this pre-Xmas jam maybe? 8)

any ideas when this is due to open - also is it open access? the PR says tghe centre is for young people up to 19 or upto 25 with learning difficulties .. so where do 40+ fit in? pool looks like the reason why I started to skate again

Re: huyton, liverpool, merseyside

place looks amazing. went down there on monday. got tingles down my spine and hairs on the back of my neck as i walked out of the yoof centre and gazed at its glory.

bloke there called jay , who works there, gave me the impression that anyone over the age of 19 wont be getting in.

tears me up inside to think that this place is going to be wasted on little kids on scooters.

if thats the case surely its age discrimination? any solicitors on MAS ?

whilst I'm all for spending money on skate facilities makes you wonder where the moneys come from, Liverpool need to find another £50m in cuts next year after cutting £100m this year.. or are they spending 2009's budget? welcome to the 10 year hangover....

Re: huyton, liverpool, merseyside

the guy i spoke to , more or less , was saying ....

they got the funding to provide 13 to 19 year olds with somewhere safe and fun to go. somewhere where they wont be being pushed around and hassled by older boys.

its a fair point. if i where a dad in huyton , id be chuffed my lad had a place that rad , and safe to go.

thing is , like most guys on here (except woody), if theres any bullying going on near me , ill step in and stop it. especially since i became a dad , ive become a lot more involved in looking after the youngest of kids in skateparks.

we need to prove to the guys who run the place that your average skate dude and your average MASSER are years apart in life experience and behaviour. that we are the guys they need least need to worry about. (except woody again) ..... because , most of us are dads ourselves.

Re: huyton, liverpool, merseyside

I'm going to ask a friend of mine who oversaw a £4m new sports facility at the local school. As part of the fund raising process they had to be fully open / inclusive of the community providing evening / weekend non-school access e.g. local footy teams playing on the astroturf, dance / fitness / martial arts clubs having cheap rates for hall hire, and weights / gym membership for £4 a week.

Over 19s bullying younger kids, sounds suspect to me. Surely a following a life of crime / anti-social behaviour starts much younger than 19 nowdays.. more like 'youth professionals' wanting to keep it for themselves. If there's a pound of public money in then surely the public should be allowed in?

A 19 year old hassled by OLDER BOYS?? WTF? We all can act like big kids, but I thought a 19 y.o. was classed as an adult, not a boy....

Re: huyton, liverpool, merseyside

made some enquiries, anything Sports Council / National Lottery should be open to all. However this is funded through MyPlace which is targeted at youngsters, however when I phoned the MySpace funding helpline they were surprised that access to facilities is restricted to under 19s. They suggested first step is to find out first hand if the under 19 rule is indeed fact and not hearsay, so not just asking the helpers there but the management, and once this has been established contacting myplace again and they will investigate. There maybe room for maneouvre here, if not general access but regular open sessions.

For me I'm re-learning everything at my local spot Halton and I've a lot to learn again after a 25 year break, Liverpool is a 90 min drive , not even been out to RampCity yet, so I can't see myself getting there before the New Year / Spring so over to anyone more local.....

Hi Jenna,

Just wondering if you have any information on the new skatepark at Huyton.
There doesn't appear to be any reliable information as to the criteria for skating the park.
From what i have read, you need to be a local and under a certain age, also i understand entry is only possible if you have a young child with you.

I'd be gratefull if you could confirm or dispell any of the above points or indeed for any information you can provide.

Thanks in advance

Ian.

reply

Afternoon Ian,

In regards to the Ourplace skate/BMX park it is part of our youth facility for young
people of Knowsley however adults are also able to come along and have a go for a fee of £3.50 a session.
Session are ran in relation to the weather and opening days & times of the facility. We have basic
rules of the park our number one rule being no helmet no access. I have attached the consent form that adults must
fill in before accessing the park – this also covers the rules etc Hope this answers your questions...
if not just email me back

Thanks Jenna

Re: huyton, liverpool, merseyside

Ok, this looks to be the best park in the North West and possibly one of the best in the country. Is anybody on here using it? If not, why not?

Re: huyton, liverpool, merseyside

Went to this a few weeks ago after a session at Deeside in the morning as the weather was really good, quite knackered after the morning session, that pool is hard going to ride, especially with my lack of time back on board, the pics with the steps & tombstone are really tiny tight low transitioned banks, not very ride able unless you have a tiny board or stature

Re: huyton, liverpool, merseyside

fun video, looks suns out at last this year :D

Is only the pool worth riding in the whole park? I'm planning to take the day off to travel there, but if its just the pool / bowl I could head somewhere nearer
