So I was drunk whilst on Ebay (New skater Hertford)

b~
As the title said - was on a night out reminicing about the skating days. Endless days spent on my BBC in the North west at such hallowed venues as the Southport snake run, the Mini ramp in Ince, and the scarily huge half pipe at Wigan roller rink (which I never dropped in on - the coping was a size of a girder).

So now I am older (36), based in Hertford and live a life full of corporate and family responsibilily and I got home from said night out and thought stuff it. Went on ebay looked at long boards (as a gentle reintroduction) and ended up forgetting I bought a Lush huna (with gullwings!)- until it got delivered. Opened the box, went out on the road and surprised myself at how my body remembered to stay on without falling off!

Since then I have done a minimum of 30 mins a day and feel like a dormant part of my soul has been unlocked. So any of you near or around Hertford want to dare me to ride some hills or grimmace as I attempt a bowl - please raise your hand. Keen to find some good spots.

I fear I will never rise to the previous hallowed levels of performance of tircks such as the No Comply Pop Shove it Flip (that was a big move down my road)! But I am loving it and keen to give it some more.

See you round

Nigel

Welcome mate :D

There are quite a few of us based around Hertfordshire and weather permitting we skate most weekends, generally early to avoid the scooters etc

Usual venue is Potters Bar and sometimes Harrow, Eaton Bray, Hemel, Bay66 etc

Keep an eye on the events section on here and come along one weekend ~ skating is even more fun when there is a group of you ..-

Hope so Nigel, but if you are going to bomb hills get proper geometry longboard trucks. Ask about and you'll see what i mean. The lower the better.

Welcome Nigel, I'm originally from Ware and was heavily involved in the Hertford scene in the 80's. It's a nice place to be.
I'm glad you've rekindled your flame.

Re: So I was drunk whilst on Ebay (New skater Hertford)

Went to XC today with a set up I have built up for at bit more agressive stuff (2nd hand Vallely deck, 169s) and had a wail of a time. Did 4 and a bit hours and now i cant move!

Started off just trying to remember how to go up and down a transition - but picked it up quickly. Ended up riding the pool a lot and got to backsiding(with a kick turn - sorry) up to the tiles in the deep and shallow end so was well chuffed. A lot of encouragement from a guy called Mark who was "taking it easy" (shredding the arse off it) due to a broken elbow.

On the mini slowly - getting higher with front side kick turns ended up pretty happy with axle stalls (if that is what they are still called), ended up having a go at dropping in on the mini and got am now pretty consistent.

So all in all a good first session back in the saddle, after 18 years - couldn't front side for shit though and any thoughts of fakie rocks were terrrifying.

I was only thinking to myself last night "if I end up skateboarding more - what am I going to do to keep fit?" - answer provided - I am fucked!

Really enjoying it - everyone I talk to is so encouraging and genuinely happy to see another person back on it. i could kiss whoever banned scooters from the xc pool - pretty much had it to myself for hours.

A few smug beers now - me thinks

Not near Hertford Nigel but, if you haven't seen it already, go take a look at the Solid Surf Skatepark Facebook page here https://www.facebook.com/pages/Solid-Su ... 1685495942 and share your memories and any photos you have with us.

AS a Southport local I'm out longboarding around the seafront any chance I get these days. So if you ever come up here again, make sure you bring yer board!

Welcome to MAS: The first day of the rest of your life!

Chris
