Anyone with cure for bad back

I seem to have hurt my back. I woke up the other week and it just hurt at the bottom left hand side.

Anyway that was over two weeks ago and it is still giving me jip.

Does anyone have any tips on what I can do to try and help apart from swallow pain killers?

Was not sure if some sort of stretching would be good?

Any help.

Re: Anyone with cure for bad back

What kind of pain ?
Constant dull ache, spasming sharp pain ?
I did this a few weeks ago. It was just constant discomfort, not agony, but stiffness.
being a big, tough skater, I thought it would work itself out, three weeks later I woke up with stabbing pain intermittently spasming through my body.
I went to the doctor, which is a rarity for me, thinking I'd probably given myself a hernia. She prescribed anti-inflammatories / pain killers for three weeks.
Just four pills in and it was all back to normal.
I wish I hadn't been a macho twat, and just gone to see the nice lady doctor sooner.
Hope that it's as minor as my tweak.
It only hurts until they administer the morphine.

a doctor is always a wise thing to do! but being someone with a long bad back history: try not to think about it too much so you can relax a little. when you focus too much on the pain you can easily get tense and that makes it worse. walking is very good for a lot of back problems, starting relaxed, and when you get warmed up step it up a little. stretching can be good, but can also be very wrong. try to get profesional advice about this! hope you'll be fine soon!

Definitely regular stretching is a must, as long as it is nothing more than 'normal' back pain just stick to over the counter pain killers and take it relatively easy. Bend at the knees if picking any stuff up all that crap.

Anyone with cure for bad back

Thanks guys. It is just a dull pain and actually feels a lot better today. Even went out skating. Hopefully I do not feel it in the morning.

1: lay face down on floor arms by sides, hips on the floor 3 minutes
2: up onto elbows, hips on floors 3 minutes
3: 10 press ups keeping hips on floors. hold each for as long as poss.

from Treat your own back ISBN-10: 0959804927.

Has worked for me, saying that put mine out today undoing a screw. Not a happy bunny now.

hi mate, this may sound a bit nuts but I`ve been told that drinking a lot of hot water and lemon helps the body repair itself, the reason I`m led to beleive is that lemons are alkaline food as opposed to acidic food and when the blood has more alkaline in it it repairs and maintains the body better. I`ve been doing a lot of heavy lifting at work and so far it`s been working for me

Re: Anyone with cure for bad back

Had some fairly serious back issues early last year. Got to where I couldn't stand up at one point. My wife talked me into taking me to a chiro. First and last time ever. He cracked the right spots to make it feel better, so that at least I could walk a little better. But then he made it clear that this was to be an ongoing procedure, for as long as my insurance would support, rather than actually trying to fix anything.

Then went to a physical therapist, who explained that the issue is from too much tension in the hams and glutes, which were pulling my pelvis all out of whack. So the back pain was the result (which the chiro addressed), but the legs were the cause (which the PT addressed). They gave lots of massage/treatment for short-term improvement. But the ongoing solution has been stretching. Keeping the legs and back stretched daily, and I've had no real back problems since (only the expected mild soreness from sitting as a desk all day with terrible posture).

Re: Anyone with cure for bad back

I have a knot in my back just above the left hip..this has gone on for a few months of me using the ibuprofen gel and my GP (who clearly DGAF) telling me it'll get better, just keep going..

The pain has now migrated all the way down my leg into my calf muscle. Exercise helps, stretching helps, swimming helps, but god does it suck when you wake up in the morning!

Re: Anyone with cure for bad back

The best thing I have done, for helping cure and prevention is...bear with me while I try to explain this.

Lie on the floor with your arse up against a chair with your legsin the sitting position, so basically your torso and head are on the flat, the back of your things are on the front of the chair/couch and the bottom of your legs is where your arse would normally be on the chair.

Preferably somewhere you can watch telly, because you need to stay like that for 20/30 mins each night at first. Then less frequently as your back improves.

This was told to me by a chiropractor mate of mine and I think it actually helps. The reason behind this is that lying like this allows the vertebrae to decompress in a low impact way and allows blood to circulate to the discs, etc, which encourages healing.

Like I said, it works for me, came from a fairly reliable friend of mine, but could be complete bollocks. But I still do it once or twice a week, just in case ;)

Re: Anyone with cure for bad back

get the fucker looked at by someone who knows what they're doing (as opposed to having it diagnosed by old skaters :D )

I had a bad back a while ago which refused to sort it self out even after physio etc and turned out after a load of tests I have Ankylosing Spondylitus, after a week or two on anti inflammatorys and a switch to targetted physio and exercise it's been no real bother since

The smallest back pain can be the tip of the ice berg, if you've got company health care get someone to look at it asap
