GNARLY DUDE 3 - COMPILATION
Just released and what may be the last in the many faceted series. If you're a fan of these mini classics then you'd best shift your arse and get this because the old format wins again. Challenging, obscure, unpredictable and drenched in quality ditty's this surely concludes a memorable trio. The 60's beatle-esqe Fuzz Face are one of the best bands that stand out from the first few tracks with the well established Phinius Gage throwing in an American melody for all young punks. AFS and Crouch Mog are Britains best contibutors and rattle off 'No Hope' and 'Never Easy' with sublime class. The Newtown Kings reggae number is upbeat and in stark contrast to some of the other hard guitar rocking numbers. The main beauty of these CD's is that they open up different musical vista's and let one experience stuff they may never encounter which is always a good thing. Bands here are being exposed to different audiences, a vital ingredient of compilation CD's and one too often overlooked. The last - I hope not - but if so then its been a pleasure.
The third installment of the 'Gnarly Dude' saga is crammed with relatively
unknown bands as were the first two CDs. This time there are 26 tracks all
by different bands and the music as usual is very varied. There is old school
punk, hardcore, ska and some tracks that I couldn't catagorise so there is
something on here for everybody. The Gnarly Dude CDs are always good value
but of the 3 albums I think this is the best so far. Some of the artists I
favoured were Phinius Gage, the consistantly good AFS, Crouch Mog, Vanilla
Pod, Rosenfeld, Capitol Targets, Johno & The Trannies and Newtown Kings.
I myself thought the best track off the CD was 'Time Time Time' by ICH. The
CD is only 3 quid and you can buy the whole Gnarly Dude trilogy for a fiver
so get your wallets out.

Middle-age-shred.com certainly comes up trumps with their mad comps and this is no different, there different styles of music on here, but for me the Blood Uncles track is easily the best, it's a real coup gettin them on this, there Vanilla Pod who poppunkas lovew, there 26 track all in even a band called Blacklist Brigade featurning Duane Peters, nice one.
