I moved from a Lovenskate 8.5 to an almost impact light 8.35. The nose on the almost is massive, but the tail seems short. I've had four or five sessions and am getting used to it. I am skating venture v-lights and they extend the wheelbase, which shrinks the nose. The trucks were great on the lovenskate except they fucked my noseslides (my reason for skateboarding!). This huge nose compensates, and also seems good for kickflips.
The tail is short, and the ventures shrink it. It has taken a while to get used to the changed pop. Getting there, I think.
I'll try get a pic later, but it has been skated.
I also bought my next deck (boarderco). I like to have one in the wardrobe so if i break a board, the replacement is pretty immediate (no skate gear in Limerick any more, the indoor park closed and does bike shop only now - not covid related).

Yep, ghost pop. Then when i smashed the tail down to make sure it popped, my front foot timing was off. My slide was too fast and the front of the board was bouncing down off my foot instead of coming up with me. There was a gap of almost 6" between the deck and my front foot at the deck at the apex of the ollie. I think the change was worse this time as the deck has a layer of something (impact light) on top and was as stiff as anything. I'm used to it now and i think the deck has loosened a bit too.
I am really enjoying the nose though.

Set up a big boy:

10.25 x 33.5 Had to shim out a pair of 169s 3/8" so it wasnt a complete magic carpet ride. At least after riding this my flat tricks will be a bit higher once Im on a 9" again. Its a workout flipping that beast!

New deck ... Lovenskate 8.5 (pennswood). This is my third or fourth Lovenskate, but haven't had one for months.
It could be my last. Britain leaves the EU in 10 days, and i'm not paying more duty and tax on the already rising cost of skate gear. (Lovenskate is a british company using usa (pennswood) or mexican (BBS) made decks. My mates company should have decks soon, anyway. Guess i'll be trying those.

I made a couple of changes to the set-up.
I added old rails after watching Ron Whaley selling the idea (and selling NHS gear) in one of his videos i watched the other night. They aren't NHS, sorry Ron, but they work well.
I also changed trucks. this was a major change and made a huge difference. I can ollie again!
My ollies and connected tricks had dipped hugely since i set up the lovenskate. I was blaming christmas excess of food and wine and old age.
I used to have the exact same deck and i cracked the nose back in march/april. I gave the deck to my son as it was - film trucks and small wheels - originally 52s prob sub 50 now. I saw the deck in the shed and it looked different. The tail looked longer. I put it side by side with the current set-up. The deck is the same, both pennswood. But when you step on the tail, the old one with film trucks and small wheels went to about 35 degrees. The current set-up with 54m wheels and venture lights went to past 45 degrees. Thats why i couldn't ollie it. The venture extend the wheelbase, therefore they shrink the tail. It wa to much for teh already steep tail of the lovenskate.
I'm still old and unfit, but the set-up was making it hard. Anyway, i got my old aces on now with 54mm wheels and all is good.
The ventures were great on other decks, particularly the last one.
I got to pay more attention to deck-truck combos. Sometimes its the gear is the problem.

I havent gripped it yet, was just fitting trucks. Ill post some good pics when its set up.

New everything except mounting bolts. My old trucks that were hollows bent after I was halfway through the axle and slapped a 90* curb a few times. I kept riding them for a week after and badly coned a wheel and blew up a bearing. It’s Christmas in May!

Something for fun ... old wheels and trucks, some scrap wood.
I originally went with 7" nose, 14" wheelbase and 6.5" tail, but ollies were way off cos the tail was hitting the ground very early for my timing. I re-drilled the back truck further towards the tail so I guess it's around 6" now and the wheelbase is about 14.5".







I have brought it to the park twice and everyone wants a go. It's fun. I haven't tried curbs yet but i will soon. I think they may be difficult to slappy as you can't get body weight over the wheels. For the same reason, the rainbow rail is a no go.

I’m wondering if all the routers will end up collecting a bunch of wax after noseslides if stuff is heavily waxed. Board/lips not so much since you ride rails. Any wax deposits yet?

No wax deposits yet, but don't ride on obviously waxed parks from what I can see
